Building a 4.0
So I want to build an engine for my jeep. I want something that makes decent power (nothing too crazy) but is tough enough to run around at redline all day long. I figure if I keep the power down that should not be a problem.
Here is a list of some of the parts I think ill use. If you see anything i'm missing or is a bad idea please let me know. This will be my first complete tear-down and rebuild so any advice is appreciated.
Comp cams cam, lifters, timing set, and springs
0.460 int 0.476 ex
Harland sharp roller rockers
speed-pro pistons
Connecting rods I'm not sure if that's a full set or per each?
I'm not too sure about the connecting rods. Anybody now how tough the stock ones are? Also does anybody have any experience with getting bigger valves put in the stock head? prices, benefits, ect...?
I want to run it on regular, premium costs too much.
My jeep is a 96 with a ax-15 and i'v already got a cold air intake 99+ intake manifold and a atp header plus a glasspack exaust. I think that's all I can do without changing the internals. I picked up a low miles engine at the junkyard to build from so my jeep won't be down while i'm working on it.
Let me know what you think!

Any thoughts to turbocharging? Stock internals on my 96 AX15 have yet to fail with an extra atm flowing through it. Pulls hard from 2k to redline if you ask it to or it runs like a stock Jeep if you keep your foot out of it.

Its a little out of my price range right now but ideally the internals of the engine I build will be up for it if I decide to put one on down the road. How much do you have in your setup?

I have 1000 to 1200 in the manifold turbo and down pipe. Tuner box is 400 depending on what you choose. Injectors are 200. Support addons are somewhere around 700. This is on stock internals.

I budgeted for the initial cost but I feel like it would get old buying premium every fillup. Also I'm not looking for that much power right now. I just want something better than stock that I can still beat on without worrying that i'll hurt it.

Don't get me wrong, I know it's gonna cost money. I think i'v got around 1200 in parts listed and it's gonna be more than that when i'm done. I don't take it easy on what i'v got, because I know the 4.0 can take it. I want to put together an engine that's stronger than it needs to be so I don't loose any of the reliability it's known for. Any thoughts on the parts I got listed?

My pistons and rods seem to have held up fine with the increased power. I cant say anything about the other parts. If I was to pick out any of the parts you listed for your build for myself it would be the roller rockers.

No clue, but enough to make it fun. I need to find a dyno day in CT. I am using a 20g/TD06H. The manifold I have tucks the turbo right where the stock downpipe would be.
