build stroker or swap in V8

build stroker or swap in V8
wanting to put more power into my cherokee. i have been reading up on things and trying to decide which way to go. based on that i am looking for input from you guys as to which might be the best way to go.
should i just take the 4.0 and build a stroker which looks like i could get around 270 hp out of it but the torque increase really isnt that great. should i buy a decent junk yard chevy V8 with transmission and transfer case and do a swap? there is nothing like a good V8.
any thoughts, input, tips, problems would be appreciated.

iam thinking 3 to 5k and i can do all the work myself less maching work on the motor. if i build a strokeri can do the assembly. if i do a swap i can do it all.

But id recommend completely replacing the whole driveline to support real abuse.
And if you're doing it all yourself then you really only need to price out all the parts and set aside 1000-1500 for misc. parts
Main question is, do you really NEED more power than a stroker would get you

FrankZ did a V8 swap. He also appariently had a couple strokers... didnt have good things to say really. Unreliable. I have also seen many of them leak or blow over within a few thousand miles.

GM LS/LQ truck motor for sure.. Combos for eng/trans can be had for decent prices, either ebay or your local JY possibly. Best would be a wrecked donor vehicle.

4.7 Stroker going into my 02 Apex Edition Wrangler next week, block is at the machine shop as I type this.
Chevy 350 in my Cherokee... you can't beat them, and you can build them for anything you want, low end torque, high end top speed, carb, TBI, DPI. Oh, and parts are everywhere...
For off road reliability... I would suggest a carb, but carry small parts in your rig incase of a trail repair. Injected motors (Bleeding the fuel pressure before you repair them) is just begging for trouble IMO.
