I see the safety concerns, I do. So maybe i picked a bad topic to defend someone, but its not only for taillights. every day people are all "oh man those rims are effin gay get soft 8's or d windows" or "that camo headliner looks like ****, just redo it in gray it'll look so much better" etc. thats more what i was referring to. needless bashing of someone rig. The taillight thing, i can understand where you are coming from, but i stand behind my statement of "it's their rig, dont like it? Dont do your rig in a similar fashion", when safety is NOT the issue.

That's fine. I agree. When safety isn't an issue I couldn't care less what is done to someone else's vehicle.Originally Posted by stock95sport(for now)

Get LEDs thats what I'm going to do. Also a lot of hot rod guys put a penny down in the middle of the light before they tint so there's the one bright spot.
That got me thinking about taping off a design then spraying.

So, basically, if you were riding down the road in your vehicle at night on the way home from having dinner with your wife and two small kids... You run up on this guy who is stopped in the middle of a back road to wait on a cow to cross the street and run into the back of him because he has his super awesome cool night shade tail lights that can't be seen. Your two kids are killed, you are stuck in a wheel chair for the rest of your life, your wife survives and leaves you for this other guy because of his cool tail lights and working legs.
You'd be good with that because he had the freedom to tint his tail lights and do any modifications that he saw fit?
I wish cops would seriously crack down on this crap.
It's not safe. It's stupid. I don't care if you put 2000 watt bulbs in there it's still not going to be red and as visible.
It'd be perfectly fine if the thing never left the road.
There's a bold line that should be drawn between a cool mod and something that can get someone killed. Often enough, people root on the people that do stupid **** like this.
That's a little extreme. And I gotta say regardless of tail light brightness your headlights should see a stopped vehicle in the middle of the road, with enough time to stop.Originally Posted by lowrange2

Why shouldn't it be extreme? It could certainly happen.
Sure, you should be able to spot something in the road but what if you don't? You can't tell me you can see a stopped vehicle just as easily at night with it's lights on or off...
Just this morning (5am, still dark) I was on my way to work and came up on a vehicle sitting on the side of the road, abandoned, and didn't see it until I was right up on it. Had it been sitting in the road I would have hit it.

Maybe you need brighter lights? I'm sorry but I generally don't have a problem seeing in front of me and my headlights aren't even aimed right. Lol. Granted I don't frequent rural roads but when I do if needed I turn on my brights. Then I see plenty far.
I'm not saying tinted lights are the brightest idea, but I don't see how you can really justify them as a danger. At least more than say, crappy designed, burnt out, dim, faded, or just generally ****ty taillights, and turn signals that SO many other cars drive with. And I know at least my tint job is better than those.
BUT I am seriously going to redo them because every one with tinted tails has done them this way and its starting to grow lame on me.

So, I need to install brighter headlights so I can see your tinted tail lights?
Why not just remove the bulbs and spray paint the lenses black. That'd be cool and it'd be ok because I can see you with my headlights.
Silly ole' tail lights.

Apparently you need brighter lights to see anything on the road lol. You just said there was an abandon car on the side of the road that you didn't see til you were right up on it. And that if it was in the road you would've hit it. Again. You should've seen it, and been able to react, and not hit it. Unless you were just going way to fast.Originally Posted by lowrange2

Wowza, I just wanted a link to get some LED bulbs. Thks mike mike

It was foggy. Had it had tail lights I would have been able to see it much sooner. My headlights are plenty bright but don't do a damn bit of good in fog.
I'll ask again, You're telling me that you can see a car at 100 feet away in the dark with no lights just as easily as you can see the same car at 100 feet with lights?
The bottom line is there is absolutely no point in making a safety feature less effective. Ever. It's just stupid and illegal for a reason.
This forum catches on fire anytime someone mentions removing a catalytic converter but we can talk about illegally tinting tail lights and it's all good.

This is from Ca law since it was the first thing that popped up.
"(e) Taillamps shall be red in color and shall be plainly visible from all distances within 500 feet to the rear except that taillamps on vehicles manufactured after January 1, 1969, shall be plainly visible from all
distances within 1,000 feet to the rear."
I'm sorry but blacked out tail lights are not "Plainly Visible" at 1000 feet.

Well I'm not in CA and I could easily pick out MANY vehicles here (IN) without tinted lights that wouldn't adhere to those standards.
Its clear you have a cramp in your side for tinted tail lights. I'm gonna take some pictures the next night its not raining just to see how the tints hold up to those CA laws.
And regardless of lights on lights off on or around the vehicle tinted or not, I still say you should be able to avoid a car stopped in the road. If its foggy, rainy whatever and you can't see you should slow down and give yourself time to react. I mean you are talking safety right.

Did these vehicles make an effort to make them less visible? If so, I feel the same way about them. Originally Posted by DieselD

I agree. 9 times out of 10 you should be able to spot a stopped vehicle in the road. You should be able to go all the way thru life and never have a wreck... but **** happens. Originally Posted by DieselD

The debate could go on for days. You can give me a 100 more reasons why there's nothing wrong with tinted tail lights and I can give you 100 more reasons why they're pointless.
I should know better than try to reason on safety's side.
I give.

So I assume you feel the same way about all the sketchy things that you can do to suspension components? Removing front sway bars could be dangerous but we talk about those. LolOriginally Posted by lowrange2

Seriously though I'm not trying to get you bent out of shape. Its just debate for boredoms sake.
I will try and post pics tonight just so you can see my tint job, maybe I could at least sway you that when done properly it is not a hazard. Lol.
To the OP sorry for wrecking this thread but there is plenty of threads and info on brighter bulbs and LEDs etc. that already exist AND you got a link.
