Default A bit confused...

After much research, I can say that I am stumped. Let me explain my predicament. I have an xj with worn out leaf springs in a few pieces....and I'd like to possibly get a bit of lift at the same time...so all I've been able to find for leaves at 2 inches are OME HD ones....which is a problem because I'd like for it to ride nicely unloaded as well...and I can't find matching 2 inch coils...I found OME 1.75 ones but as I live in Maine and it is illegal in my understanding to use coil spacers, I need 2 inch coils...bds has some...but for leaves I'd rather not order at list price basically from a big place like quadratec...which is the only place I've been able to find 2 inch springs....and they're the hd ones...

In short, where can I get medium (read: regular) spring rate 2 inch leaf springs? And will they work with bds coils (be of equal height)? Lastly, what else would I need for this lift? It seems that I could squeak by without new shocks but mine are old anyways....if too much is needed I might as well go full on RE 3.5 components....thanks!

I don't know if they'll have exactly what you're looking for, but I have had good luck with General Spring in Kansas City.

Granted I've been out of the XJ scene for six months now but OME made medium and even light duty two inch leaves... have they stopped doing that?

Also you could get a one inch or even OEM sized leaf pack and make up the rest with a shackle drop.

See if you have a local spring shop in your phone book. Most of them can make any spring rate and height you want and you get them today.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys! I'll try to look into those places...sadly I have never seen any of these places people talk about on here (spring shop, transmission shop...)...

I think if you research that law you will find the coil spacers they are referring to are the ones that go in between the coils. Not the ones that go on top. Especially since the xj comes with a spacer from the factory.

"After the leafs have sagged" is not the time to install an Add-A-Leaf. These things are intended to work with functional leaf spring packs. When added to already fatigued metal their lifetime will be drastically reduced (sagging again after a few months... not worth the time or money)

Quite possibly, the kind of coil spacers XJs run are essentially massive coil spring isolators. Modern truck levelling kits run these.

A store local to me sells these ridiculous looking "lower or lift" kits for $10 that either clamp or spread the coils. If I was in a position to, I would ban that garbage too. No way that junk is safe. (Actually they might be banned here and sold as "off-road only")

LOL Yep, those are the culprit.

Holy crap those would just fall out! , or wear the coil spring enough to break.

No experience here, but that does not look safe.

Really? That would be awesome! I also found that Maine's "no louder than stock exhaust law" is "exempt for motor vehicles, except motorcycles" which are then "exempt if under 93 db" or something lol...and they put the "exempts" at the bottom of the page...I wish they would be more clear...are you from Maine? I can't tell as I don't have a computer :...( only the ones school issues during the year...

Oops...last post was for holy caveman and I meant it would be cool if coil spacers were legal...no way those spreader things schould be lol...I know I need new leaf springs but for someone who has no job it'd be pretty great to level out the front afterwards for $20-50 rather than $130, especially as it's a daily driver and not a hardcore offroad exo caged rig, as much as I'd like it to be haha
