Bilstein shock sizing compromise/choice?
Hi guys. I would like your consensus. When selecting a set 5100 Bilstein for your lifted Cherokee, what would you prefer if your actual lift height falls between choosing to either have more extension or more compression?
I just ordered a set of FST shackle relocation boxes because my shackle angle is bad (I have new RE 3.5" full leaves and RC 1-2" extended shackles, sitting at around 5" now). I don't have them yet as there is a 1-1.5 week build time. I currently only have 3" of flex on both sides because of the current shackle angle, with the 5100's I have now. I will be able to have the correct 45* angle in 1.5-2 weeks once I get the boxes installed.
Is 3" of compression enough once I have the 45* shackle angle with my 3.5" RE leaf packs and RC extended shackles?
Thoughts? Thank you.

Can not say one way or the other. Really you need to measure your travel disconnected front and rear.
I run 10" 5100's on a 3" lift.
Bump it right before the tire rubs. Measure full extension and full compressions.
No one on here can accurately tell you. Its something you will have to do.
We don't know if and how much your fenders are cut, fender wells, back spacing, etc.... all comes into play.

Depends on your setup. With long arms I don't have crap for up travel, only a few inches. Down travel on the other hand... it'll droop until the spring falls out lol.

I am also running 10" travel 5100's on my 3.5" lift Soon to have longer travel ones up front since they are limiting my droop since I re did my front suspension

Hi Frank-that is correct, they are really stationary (Franks has been helping me on this issue and Serious Offroad is run by one hell of a guy!
). The angle is crap for sure. I am measuring the center of the eyelet stud (on the axle), to where the top "bar pin" touches the unibody. That is the correct spot, right?
After scouring the net' looking at lift pictures, it seems everyone that has a good suspension set-up has proper shackle angle. I thought that buying extended shackles and installing them in my OEM boxes, that it was doing the same thing. I know now. Thank you for your input guys. Frank, I am going to pm you.
