There are TONS of toyotas higher then my rig running 37s at cow and rubicon.... they seem to think its good.

 

exactly, just find what suspension works for YOU.

 

I'm goin to 36s when I get the 8.8. Axles are the only thing limiting me... I have never rolled, go where I want, and just like the way my jeep looks :gunsmile:

 

there is a huge difference between the yota and your jeep. my ranger sits higher than most jeeps, but it rides completely different than the jeep does. the yota's will be quite similar.

 

Just saying I've been on some nasty rocks and sidehills and never even got close to rolling. Mine does not feel tippy... that's all I'm saying.

 

Wow this is fun I have a big lift. 1 to clear body and underside also i wanted 36 or 37 in tires and i did not want to cut up the body except for the flares i put on so it is in fact a matter of what the OP wants to achive with his build. And it does depend on what area he will be driving.

well to put that in perspective it could be as simple that your coils are stiffer than a standard set. the coils on your rig are actually stiffer than the ones on my ranger. i run around 200PPI and am looking to move up to what yours are which is 250PPI. my vehicle is a lot heavier. so i do understand why yours does not feel as tippy

 

all i know is i want to go big so i can go where i want. and yes i know being big does not mean everything. i just want a nice toy to wheel with and not have to worry about being stuck

 

Lift height by NO means equals capability. I bet guys on 3" and 33s could get anywhere you could with more ease, and much less lift.

 

i understand that. but with a bigger lift you have many more options than limitations

All other things equal they will both go the same places. I like my breakover cause I'm just a big pansy and like to save.my rockers for the really big rocks.... as was stated earlier (by a guy who seems to be against bigger lifts) if its a quality lift and properly set up it will work well. Look at my picks the one with me and the stock red Cherokee. I have driven laps around that mound total side hill... never got close to tipping.

 

OK, lets see if we can handle this in a kinder and gentler manner now. I have not been to MI, but only as far as WI. But from my understanding you have lots of glacial fill there to wheel, as well as some kick but sand dunes right? And you also drive on snow for extended periods, right?

My first recommendation to you would be to get a locker at least in the rear. Since you live in the land of snow, I would say selectable. But they are pricey I realize, since I own a couple I am saving for some larger axles. But if you wanted to do the effort, a lunchbox locker could easily be removed in the winter for driving on ice. And then installed in the spring for mud and soft ground that I think you have there. Also, do you lower your tire pressure when wheeling? That goes a long ways to making a capable rig, given the tire size you have.

i like the look of my jeep. some trimming is good but i like the option of having fenders as well

 

i still have full flares on mine and wheel with 33s just fine i occasionally have to bend a fender out when a tire catches one funny.
