Default Big Block Ford in my XJ????

My first rig was an 86 F150 but it caught fire and burned up, Total loss.....

My mom is donating her XJ to me and I happen to have all the brackets, pan and everything to mount a 460 in a Ford Pickup, I'm wondering if I could squeeze it in the XJ? I understand its unibody without a frame, but Down the road maybe........

What do you think?

Personally that would be way to much work for a XJ, too.

Wow, that's a lot of engine for an XJ...if you could make it fit, it would probably twist the unibody. You would probably want to make a real frame for it, and use full width Dana 60's. Lots of work! Might be easier to put an XJ shell on a Bronco or similar frame, with an existing suspension, drivetrain, etc?
Go for it!

If you do it you gotta take pics cause that would be cool as hell. But on the other side I dont think it would be a great idea in an xj. I have seen a couple that they reinforced the whole unibody and shoved a H.O. 5.0 in it.

it would be no different than putting a 460 BB into a unibody Mustang...would probaly be a tight fit...stock aw4 trans would get busted.

Isn't a 460 Ford big block bigger than the entire front clip of an XJ??

A 460 looks crammed in a full size Ford pickup. I don't see how one could be shoehorned into an XJ.

be ready to get really pissed off later if you do it cuz thats gonna be one hell of a job and it will be by no means easy I would think you will probably have to build a full real frame like a buggy and the front end firewall forrward would have to be removed im sure and have custum tube work built into new frame . basicly i think your looking at building a buggy with an xj shell for looks and comfort as far as room and storage. it would be a cool build though go for it so what you come out with.
it will be a great learning experience

Default Look at it this way....

1. I've got the 460 stuff just laying around.

2. Whatever I do to the XJ it will never be enough so I'm trying to make a game plan that has somewhat of a long goal.

I'm going to start by getting the truck in shape like I want it, everything dependable and working, then trim the fenders and get the body right, then bumpers whens its done the body will look the way I want and be re-enforced with a cage, bumpers and doors. I also got an Idea for the rear hatch. Everything stripped out with racing seats and buckles, Lights.......During this work I'm going to find my axles and get the plan for the lift and re-enforcement of the unibody on top of the cage already in there. Dana 60's all around. If I can come across duece and a half axles maybe but thats really dreaming........ When the axles are built and everythings ready for my lift I'll probably do a conservative lift with long arms........I dunno how high exactly but I want at least 37's on it.... with the wider axles, proper trimming and the right bump stops I think I can pull off 37's without pushing the COG up too high.....I Dunno.......then when all thats done collect the right xmission and xfer and put the 460 in it....Fuel injected shooting for around 600 to the crank.........Should be a long project....take my time gather the right parts..........

Even with the pickup I had that burned the plan was still the same....I had just got the lift on the pickup so the 460 was next.......well....so is life right?

this is simular to what you would be looking at this is a 440 BB in an XJ
this was 80G rig. Notice tube work for front end to mount engin which is tied to a 8 point cage and custom chassi through entire vehicle
