Default better steering box?

So what is the best/most popular steering box swap for running large tires and axles?

Darango box is a popular swap little faster. though YJ boxes are a good option and little stronger. you really need OTK steering that helps the most

the durango box is a better swap then the yj box. 4 bolts dont make the box better. durango box has larger internals for more steering power w/ the right pump mod. the yj box has the same size piston as the xj box

My old jeep ran the stock box with 36's and a ARB for a few years worked fine till it ripped the uni body behind it........fixed and ran for a few more years.........new jeep has the YJ's because a bolt broke in the stock box.......if you need more you should be running hydro.......

on 35s a stock box doesnt steer as easy on the rocks as a durango box. no need to spend the money on an assist when you can get what you need with the durango box. stepping up to 37s i would run an assist

I think the YJ does have a different ratio........but I've never driven a durango box on a XJ........I've never had a problem with the actual box or internals of the stock XJ's even with running 36's and a locker........it was other things that went first.....The assist isn't as much meant to take the force away from you but to take the pressure off the frame (uni-body) and put it on the axle.

lol the assist is to make it easier on the driver and the steering components

Exactly, it's not that hard to turn the tires but it puts a lot of strain on things.......after tie rod ends and such the last weak point is the place it attaches to

you ever get stuck between two big rocks at full lock with a stock box? its not the easiest to steer out. throw an assist on and its a walk in the park.
