Default Better front brakes ...

Does anyone have a recommendation for upgraded front calipers ? I don't wanna do the whole wj knuckle conversion , I just want a better/stronger caliper for the front

without doing the WJ conversion, be ready to spend some serious cash. gojeep's aussie kit is the only route i know of since bryson (boostwerks) stopped trying to find a better/cheaper alternative to the WJ setup and couldnt.

btw, you can run cobra and cobra R brakes once you do the WJ conversion.. not that the cherokee needs brakes that size..

that thread is for master/booster upgrades.

you do not need to upgrade either in a 97 with stock axles. the stock master is fine until your calipers get MUCH bigger and need more fluid.

Black Magic brakes are a proven rotor/pad combo that uses the OEM calipers.

I put on new calipers from napa and powerstop rotor pad kit on and saw a huge improvement. Not sure what part helped but it's stopping my 35s pretty good.

I am not saying they do nothing... but without increasing the friction surface area(pad/rotor) and/or increasing the calipers strength(Larger piston/dual piston), I don't think it will make a substantial difference.

Thats a cool link for the cobra calipers... I didn't know that.

pad compound and the quality of the rotor (weight, among other things) make a pretty big difference.

I'm running s10 calipers in the rear and they have a stronger feel then the fronts I just want a stronger caliper or mine are messed up , I was winching one day and noticed the front wheel was still rolling with the brakes pressed in as hard as I could

Very true, I did notice a difference in a car I used to have when I switched the pads only to the "red stuff" pads on all 4 corners, especially when on the track... But I noticed a MUCH bigger difference and a real improvement when I swapped the front 8" rotors for 11" rotors and dual piston calipers. Again not saying it wouldn't make a difference, Just don't want OP to think stock pads/calipers/rotors ect will make it stop a TON better, unless it has a problem with the current setup...

*EDIT* When I swapped my D44's and got the 1/2ton brakes F+R it made a HUGE difference and I feel like I can actually stop within a good distance... Bigger calipers/rotors/pads, drums and shoes...

It could be sticking or seized and not applying correct pressure to the pads/rotor...

swap your proportioning valve to a ZJ one, and if you have old *** calipers they probably arent working as well as new s10 ones..
