I heard of a local guy ripping out his steering box this weekend doing some moderate trails, and that got me thinking that thats one area that I have neglected. Whats the best steering box brace I can get for my XJ. Seems like alot of different companies make them.

Are you local to Missouri? Are you referring to TJ ripping out his steering box on his ZJ at SMORR? He actually sheered two of the bolts (not so bad) but broke one of the tabs (this is the bad part).

Since hearing about this, I've also looked into the brace idea.

I've found two types. The plates that you weld in, then also a bar that mounts to one side of the frame, and uses a bar with a collar that goes around the snout of the steering box to locate and brace it. I've thought about running a combination of both.

I got a spacer from JCR. It's not really a brace but it's a good add on
I looked into the currie steering reinforcement (driver side only) and that looks like it will be plenty strong for the average guy
But I think the best brace is to drill holes through the frame, insert DOM, and weld plates on either side and sandwich the frame

Yep im on stloffroad and get the posts on Facebook. I thought they were at Wa****a on A2 when this all happened. Either way its a good idea to brace that box up. My b-day is coming up so I just sent my wife some links so hopefully she will get me one before the fall colors run that MWJT is having.

The same thing happened to me but mine sheared off while turning around in my neighbors driveway. You can run an aftermarket bumper that has a brace built in or buy just the brace. I personally like the C-Rok brace and its only about $100.
