It doesn't bottom out on the road ever, and has more droop then my extended brake lines allow(not pictured.. yet lol) with just enough bumpstopped uptravel to keep big tires from eating my fenders. Will be going with IRO stainless lines soon.

35s?

Your close to my setup. My shocks are 13" travel and I can use every inch of them. Im also on 4.5" I may change my setup though to allow for a bit more uptravel. Im currently on like 3" of up travel, and 10 down

Nah, 36x12.50 ss tsl. Actual size of those are like 36.5in. I plan on running 35x12.50 MTR Kevlar .

stock mounts?

I've ran 10" shocks and gotten that kinda travel out of my rig.. hard to believe they are fully extended in those photos. I've also ran 12s with 3" lift on 37s ( bump stopped for them too) and they would bottom out. it was annoying.

Yea they are far from fully extended. The pic of the passat being flexed over per boss at work I was not allowed to go further die to breaking glass in parking lot. And on the lift I wasnt even suppose to be doing such things in the shop so I didn't go higher. Stock mounting. Never has once bottomed out in the front. Although my right rear will bottom on harsh roads. The rear isn't too annoying since it doesn't happen alot

Sorry I just have a hard time believing you are fitting 14s on a 4.5" lift with stock mounts.

Seeing that an xj with a 4.5" lift and stem to eye adapters has roughly 19" between shock mounting points. And a 14" travel bilstein 5100 has a collapsed length of 20.75" eye to eye.

edit: just noticed you are running the generic white shocks with likely a stem mount. Maybe the bodies are significantly shorter than a bilstein monotube as well. still a tight fit.

That's cute, now were assuming what I bought with my money and install on my Cherokee. You of all people ktm I'd expect better from. Maybe your just jerking my chain.. idk. But I'll play. Oh and when is a DT8000 an generic Mexican white shock with an stem extension lol. I rekon if your paint a bilstien white it magically becomes a generic Mexican white shock too?

There's the part number. You can get lengths from a couple different sites. I ordered mine from low range offroad. Let me know ya find.

Just because the 5100 is too long for your setup does not mean my DT8000's won't work for mine man.

Not playing, genuinely curious.

Twin tubes don't have an internal floating piston, so that allows the body to be a little shorter. and the stem mount helps you out too.

I just went with the bilstein lengths because they are a common shock among this forum. They clearly wouldn't work in this application, but it seems the D-techs do.

mine were generic procomp $35 each junk and would smack the bumpstop about 3/4'' before bottoming the shock.. but was literally all the up travel my tire had without rubbing.. but yes a 14in travel shock on a 4.5 lift

OP, I would say go with either 5160s or 7100s in the front. and 5100s in the rear.
And, at your lift height I definitely recommend either CAD brackets or mid/long arms.

I'm currently at 4" lift in the front With my mid arms I could probably run 13-14" travel shocks. I definitely need at least 12", my Bilstein 10" 5100s are at their limit on droop with the swaybar disco'd.

with the 37s it was maybe 2" up 8 down and with the 35s it was about 4 up 6 down.

my rear suspension sucked for both of these photos. it wasn't until my black xj where I finally learned to spend some money on decent leaf packs and dial in my shackle angle.

Here is mine...only about 3 up, 10 down.
Thoughts for improvement?
I'm wanting to move to a nicer shock..either a set of 7100s or some foa 2.0 resis. Just don't know if I should go 12 or 14
