Best prices on quality gears
I know this is a common question but I'd like to know current prices and options since I'm in the market now. Who knows where to get the best bang for your buck on gears. I've searched some sites that I know of and prices vary to a degree. I'm not pinching pennies, I just don't want to buy gears then kick myself for paying too much. '98 XJ, HP30 rev cut front w/ Chys. 8.25 rear, 5.5" long arm, 33" tires and planning on stepping up to 35's so I'm shopping for 4.88. Thanks in advance, guys.

The set of 4.56's I bought for my 99 were under $500 with vg master install kits included from Rustys same D30/Chy 8.25. They are Motive gears the same I use in my race cars for up to 1500hp using a transbrake and numerous Dirt Track cars but only 5-750hp range. I have never had a failure with them in the last 25 yrs or so.

Thanks Fred. I saw a post that you left on a prior thread about Rusty's but they don't offer 4.88 packages. They only go up to 4.56.

the answer I got from a Yukon distributor was that all gears on the market (at least in the jeep department) are made from the same mold out of the same material. there is no "best brand" they're all the same just re-packaged in different boxes. the only difference may be quality control between companies
IMO if you're paying more than $150 for a D30 ring and pinion you're paying too much. keep it cheap, keep it simple, I get my gears locally and they've never let me down. precision, motive, USA standard, G2, whatever. All the same

Thanks for the input, Atmos. I was kind of figuring that they were all fairly comparable. A little affirmation helps me make my decision. The average price I've found has been around $650 for front and rear with master kit. I found a kit a little cheaper a few months ago but I can't remember the site. It was one of the many three letter acronym companies that I saw someone recommend a while back. I'm pretty sure the price was around $550 or so. I'd like to save a few bucks and was hoping someone on here knew.

I would go with an Advance Adapters SYE, I bought both Tatton Driveshafts on eBay for $400 for both together on sale, they are nearly as nice as Tom Woods, Adams Drivelines also makes a decent driveshaft, as well as Rough Country I was told (not known as fact) that their driveshafts are supplied by Tom Woods.

That's what I'm talking about. Thanks for the link on the gears. I already have the SYE and shafts but thanks for looking out anyway.

What I found when shopping for gear pkgs. were the quality of the Master Install Kits varied quite a bit from one to another making the difference in prices.

Well d**n. That's a valid point Fred. Makes me second guess finding a good deal. And I'm the kind of guy that spends the extra dough for quality over a good deal. Decisions decisions. Other input is welcome as I mull over what has been placed before me.
Thanks again for the help guys. I'm in the market but I'm not in a hurry to throw my hard earned money at the first pretty set of gears that I see. (I've had a few choice beverages so forgive my ramble)

Not trying to throw curves but the guy who did my gear installs told me to shop for that in a package as well when I was looking, or I would have thought they were all the same. Guy did me a real solid charged me $200 per differential to install gears and lockers in both and another $200 for the SYE and other TC parts needed. He has had a 4wd Shop for almost 30 yrs now and has Jeeps himself.

RWK Haus Supply was the site that I referred to earlier in this thread. Does anyone have much to say about that company? If there's nothing bad, I'll go ahead and pull the trigger.
