Default Been Asked Before-SC

I have found a few older posts from back in 2013 and BBuchta seems to have been silent for quite a while.

My question is this: Is there any company or private seller that still creates Supercharger kits for the 4.0L. I know I am going to cut the hood and fab a "bump" like an Eclipse.

Barring that does anyone have a list of bits/pieces I would need to do the job. I know I am looking at 5-6 psi and I have 2 M62 SC hanging around from my old Bonneville.

Thanks

CobraMarty has kits. He has also made a side mount intake to keep it under the hood. Search his name.

Thank you, I had come upon his website, but honestly with all the jeepautoparts.turbo.supercharger.com.org/takeyour/money websites out there I wasn't sure.

I am really excited to start this project and will post when it is finished on the forums.

Cheers

Google is your friend. Pulls up options and guys who have done it(eaton M62). But really not worth it in my opinion, you would drop two or three times the value of the Jeep into an add on and create something that is only faster than another Cherokee, but most v6 Hyundai sonatas could outrun. Here is a link that makes me think that, thousands spent, minimal gain.

165hp and 252 foot pounds is kinda sad for the money the blower kit cost.Stock the 4.0 ho made 190hp and 225 foot pounds and i know thats flywheel but the drivetrain can suck up that much power. But who knows how many miles are on his engine or what shape its really in on the inside of it.

Hey, don't take my response as negative. I think it's cool too, I just always look at spend vs result. For the money I'd do a stroker, but I'm more of an offroad guy. If you are mud bogging or doing a street xj, then I suppose the supercharger or a turbo would be better. Good luck and have fun!

I guess I should say the old 93 Camokee that is in my profile is my winter beater. I just like the paint I did on it better.

I have a newer 98 that I am currently looking at doing more than just the SC. It is possible that I will during winter strip down the engine and get it as "boost ready" as possible.

Googles did help a bit, I just looked at posting dates and figured after 2-ish years, like on DSMForums, people disappear

I have since gotten in touch with Jeep M62, and am waiting for a response.

I think part of the reason there is such low power gains is due to how hot the charged air is when it enters the intake. Maybe during the rebuild I will look into some sort of Subaru style TMIC??

But at any rate thank you, everyone for the answers and providing realistic feedback. I like to know my head isn't completely on Cloud 9.

I think you are right about the charge air issue. One thing that many dong consider is the additional heat created with forced induction especially without an intercooler. Add that to the already problematic XJ cooling system and I think that's where a lot of guys give up. I'd bet it would respond very well to a water to air intercooler.

Stock 4.0L 135rwHP/160rwTQ

M62 Supercharger 4.0L 211rwHP/274rwTQ
6 pounds boost, intake air temp 150*

I don't think BBucha is selling kits anymore.

CobraMarty is that intake temp the actual air inside the intake manifold and not the temp inside the intake boot? If so that's not bad at all!

Supercharging an XJ is like putting a wig on a pig.

I spent about $1500 on an ATP GT35R bolt on kit for my old MS3. A tune with my Cobb AP (another 500) and running a E85 mix it was making a over 400 hp. I miss that sob.

I don't want to know how you know that. I guess some things are best left in Colorado.

Yes, that 150* Charge IAT is after the supercharger, in the intake manifold at boost on an average 80-90* day. It is colder in the winter and barely higher in 100* summer heat.
That is the beauty of the 7th injector and running fuel thru the supercharger. It fuels the engine while in boost and 'liquid/chemically' cools the intake charge air temps as well as helps 'seal' the SC rotors making the SC more efficient.

Ohh that 7th injector is genius then! Fuel enrichment with added cooling while increasing supercharger efficiency.. makes me want to boost my mini-stroker build
