Beef up stock bumper/ add tow hooks
Man, its been a while since Ive been on CF...
I took the rusted stock bumper off my 99, I was gonna clean it up and repaint it. Then I thought hey, why not build a bumper, but I like the stock look.
I was thinking of doing something similar to the backbone (forget who makes it) to the front. Maybe like square tubing on the inside of it, make bumper brackets to weld to it. Have d ring tabs poking thru the front attached to the square tubing. Basically give it a "sub structure" and have the stock bumper like the "skin" of it.
Has anyone done something similar? Pics?

Oldblue#2 did the same thing with his rear bumper, used sign post galvanized steel as an internal skeleton and bolted the bumper to the tube. Might be on his build thread.

This Naxja thread I found has something that's very close to what I want to do, except maybe move the d ring tabs in closer to the middle because I'd like to use the stock bumper caps.
what he did to the rear is nice too. I have a good hitch though so I will probably just make a d ring adapter for it.

Man, that is pretty nice. I’m with you on the end caps too.
