Badly backfiring

Badly backfiring
My 99 xj 5 speed im having a bad backfiring problem idles fine runs good but i can go full throttle in 1st gear full throttle 2nd gear no problem but once i hit 3 rd gear at 3k rpm its just back fires constantly until i let off the throttle any ideas what it could be?
