So a relative of mine has a 78 dodge powerwagon and I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of axles came in one? I thought they could be worth some money or worth modifying for my XJ.

Not really sure I'm almost positive it is a Dana 60 in the rear and Dana 44 up front. Just trying to confirm, what comes on each and it has the 318 in it stock

1/2 ton are 5 lug 44/44 or 44/9.25(i think)
3/4 ton are 8 lug 44/60
1 ton are 8 lug and either 44/60 or 60/60 maybe even 60/70
the problem your going to run into is dodge used auto hubs in those years till 1980, also you have to reaaly keep up on greasing your bearing from an access hole in the rear of the backing plates.

The biggest brobelm is that 78 is going to have a passenger side drop transfercase wich mean the diff is on the wrong side too.
As far as bearing greasing... I don't recall having to regularly add grease to my front axle that I had in my 76 but I didn't have it in there that long untill I swapped a dana 60 front from a 93.

They weren't auto hubs... These era Power Wagons were full time 4 wheel drive, no way to unlock the hubs whether manually or automatically. But it's easily over come with a part time hub conversion. There are write ups how to do a JY conversion on sites like ramchargercentral.com

your right, not auto hubs, fulltime hubs.
ive known guys who have had those axles for years and never found the grease zerk, you have to jack it up and spin the wheel till it comes around to the access hole (if im remembering it right, it has been a few years)
