Axle upgrades
I am a new XJ owner and I am pretty new to the upgrades that go with wheeling and I have read that a lot of guys on here upgrade their axles. I have a 01 that has a LP30 in the front and a 35C clip in the rear and I wanted to know if I should upgrade the axles I currently have or if I should start to look for some new axles for a axle swap.
Any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

You can upgrade that low pinion D30 all you want. It's still going to be a low pinion.
For the price you can get a 29 spline 8.25 for i wouldn't even bother touching the D35 either. They go for like $100-200 around here.
But then again; What are you plans for this vehicle?

The trails that I run tend to be a mix of rocks and mud because of where I live. I want to be able to go up some of the rocks as well as get through the mud and water that is in Northern WA

What is the biggest size tire you want to be able to hold up to?

The low pinion isnt a huge deal. Unless your going crazy high with a lift, it'll be fine.
TJs came with LP D30s.
Any Chrysler 8.25 will be a good upgrade and it'll bolt right in. Make sure the vehicle you pull it from is the same trans as yours (manual vs auto).
With that you'll spin 33s easy.

I might go looking for one of those and a matching 8.8 to get rid of my stock 3.55s that are spinning 32s.

you'll be fine with an 8.25 rear and d30 front out of a 97-99 4 banger. Me personally, I'd op for a ford 8.8 rear like others have said. if you don't mind regearing, you can use your current dana 30 up to 3 or 4 inches.

I will have to look into getting a 8.25 or Ford 8.8 when I get back as well as get a new D30 because I plan on either going with a 4.5 or 6.5 long arm from rough country. There is only a 200$ difference between the 4.5 and 6.5. I know that I plan on running 33's at the bare min with the 4.5 or I am going to get 35 with a 6.5

why? you can run 35's at 4.5 with trimming and bumpstopping.

then you won't be running 35's at 6.5" either.
