Default Axle upgrade

My buddy has a Dana 30 and Chrysler 8.25 from a 97 with 3.55 gears. I have 3.07 gears on my 01. I'm running 32's. What do you guys think. Should I buy them and upgrade? Thanks

Gearing is all you would gain you should allready have a 8.25 w 29 spline and a d 30.In my opinion if the only thing to gain is gear ratio I would regear what you have to 4.56s.I am still runninng 33s with 3.55s.Hell 32s with 3.55s would be ok but if your gonna go bigger later just regear now.and save yourself the time, money and effort.also depends on if you have a manual.

And he'd be moving from a low pinion to a high pinion D30.

This is what you are assuming:
1) he has an AW4 (which he doesnt)
2) he has an 8.25 (which it is likely he doesnt but that I cannot say)

If he regeared to 4.56 that thing would SCREAM on the highway, top speed (redline) would be like 90 MPH. If he was previously cruising 2500 on the freeway he would be at 3200 with 4.56s. Assuming you are a stick not AW4 since you have 3.07 gears to start with, the 3.55 would be perfect especially at your tire size. If you have a D35 like a lot of 01s did, then the C8.25 would also be a big upgrade in strength. I say definitely go for it

i got a stick shift with np 231 t case and i got a low pinion d 30 with a chrysler 8.25. ive heard that the 97-99 axles are the best cause they are high pinion fronts and stronger overall. i dont plan on going bigger on tires later down the road so i think ill do it. i can get both axles for $50 bucks. all the front needs is a lca mount welded on.

I would do it. I run 3.55's axles with a AX15 (4x4 convert) and when i travel a bunch i use my 235/75r15 tires to get alittle better gas mileage.

All Cherokes have Hight Pinion Dana 30 front, except 00-01 have Low pinion.
The rear axle is either Dana 35, Dana 44 (rare), or Chrysler 8.25. The c8.25 has a flat spot on the bottom, and the Dana 35 is more of an oval.

For 50 bucks hell yeah do it as long as the gears and bearings are all good! Just look in to one thing though. I've seen something where there is a clearance issue with the front exhaust pipe when doing the low to high pinion conversion. I can't remember what it was. Something with drive shaft clearance. I'll check it out. But even if there was an issue, for the money you'd get these axles for, who cares? Spend a little extra cash on that problem and get the better gears. I run 32's on stock 3.55's and I have no problems whatsoever.

You cannot beat 50 bucks/axle for a gear upgrade do it man!! Make sure those axles have no problems like why does he want to get rid of them for so cheap?

You are right there, it all matters how the exhaust was run. I believe if the exhaust was run just behind the bell housing is where the problem arises where the drive shaft will hit the exhaust. If you have a few inches of lift then you shouldn't have any issues.

For $50, I'd pick those up in a heart beat also!
