Glad I said something on here before just doing it. Ya it's low pinion. Dana 300 is lookin better and better. Plus then I can do a doubler. I'll get to researching that but is there any advice anyone has for me?

To use a passenger side drop your gonna have to fully redo your own exhaust system. The cat is sitting right where the t case front out put will be at.

i have a d300 waiting for a doubler kit and another 300 with clocking ring on it's way here.
i'm gonna flip the 300 using the clocking ring to replace my broken 231 then rebuild that 231 to use for the doubler in another jeep.

300 is a cast iron case with gears rather than chain and you can do twin sticks to boot giving you the ability to run 2lo. plus set up right, you can do front digs, man. lol.

as for the exhaust, that's easy enough to reroute for the benefit of the d300.

D300's are some of the better cases. You can get a LoMax 4-1 kit, twin sticks, doubler, or a combination of all of them. It would definitely be worth it to swap cases, rather than trying to re-tube this axle.

Is it a GM 44 or a Dodge? Yeah, they're LP, but when/if it blows up, you're already setup for pass drop axles, so you can get a GM D60, which are significantly cheaper than the Ford 60's.

Ya rerouting exhaust won't be too hard I did it when I had my old yota. As for actually swapping the 300 in all I've read so far is to get em from an 80-86 CJ? And then obviously for the change in axle and tcase I'll need new driveshafts. I've got a 14 bolt for the rear so anyone have experience on what shafts to use for those axles to a 300? Also the 44 I have is a GM I'm pretty sure but I haven't looked up the numbers.

With the 14 bolt unless your gonna run 40s the stock shafts should be fine. The first upgrades should be rear disc and weld the axle tubes fully to the center of it.On the dana 300 i think its 81-86 cj but if you want a passenger side drop you could always run a gm np205.Either t case will take a adapter kit to run but the dana 300 is cheaper to buy when you can find one.

thanks for the advice. ya im planning on 37s once everything is under the jeep and ready to go. rather be overbuilt than underbuilt haha but hoping to stick with the stock shafts. getting the 14 bolt for 50 bucks though so well see what kind of shape those shafts are in. everything else is pretty much shot in it. definitely doing rear disks. theres a guy at work with a 205 who might part with it but I think he wants a lot. gonna check out the jy for a 300 but not holding my breath.

don't bother with a 205. stick with the 300.

you can swap out gears in the 300 with those from a scout 300 to get the better ratio.

there is so much you can do with the 300. best case out there other than atlas.

HOLY DOUGH BATMAN! If I had 4 grand layin around that hero case would be mine haha but I think I'll stick with a 300. Twin sticks would be pretty nice. Thanks everyone for the great suggestions by the way.

bahh, those are for JK snobs with more money than brains.

if i were to build a high dollar rig, (wouldn't be a JK), i would still go with atlas.

but since i'm not, i would chose the d300 for every build.

The 300 is harder to find today in a junkyard. The np205 gm used it in the 1 ton trucks 73-87 and tell 91 in the old body crew cabs.

Ya I've found a few on craigslist but I'd prefer jy prices haha. Scrapping all the crap in my garage including my stock bumpers trying to fund it haha. I've heard of people using 231's for a doubler going into a d300. Is that a venture worth pursuing or is the 231 just gonna break if I try that?

I'd recommend looking into the Lomax 4-1 kit.
I'm planning on adding one to mine when I get to that point.
