i would take a shackle 2" shackle lift over a 2"add a leaf. and i wouldn't run a coil spacer bigger than 2"

the shackle lift will flex better

Ill ask a friend of mine, I think after 97 it's a 29 spline I don't know how to check but I think there's a write up on here about it, regardless of spline count the 8.25 is bigger than the 35 so it's an upgrade.

you will need a slip yolk eleminater(SYE) after 4.5" all jeeps are different, but as a general rule of thumb anything past 4.5" will need one. up to that point, the t-case drop is fine

Hey man it came with the truck 900$ with spacers and larger leafs so I just put it on. I don't plan on running spacers when I have enough to go higher, ill just get longer coils make it a better ride

In all reality you need to make some decisions about budget and tire size. That will set you up for other things you will want/need. Go bigger than a 31" tire and you should really regear and even at a a 31 gears will help. Next is if you are comfortable trimming or not as far as lift height goes. If you stick with a 33 or smaller your d30/8.25 will do just fine. Now if you are going to go to 31's I may suggest you find a ford 8.8 rear out of an explorer. Now the axle upgrade is not necessary strength wise but you will get a lot more for your money buy going this route. With the 8.8 you get dics brakes, 4.10 gears(which are ideal for 31's), and most likely a limited slip. Granted you will need to do a new rear yoke or a combination joint in your rear shaft and weld on new spring perches you still get more for your money than regearing the 8.25 and doing a disc swap then regear the d30 to 4.10's.

As for the rear locker question if you change your driving habits you will hardly notice it is there. Coast around corners and where sharp turns are necessary and you should act like an open diff. Even in a tight parking lot the chirp is not horrible and unless you are a frequent shopped I doubt you will notice your any extra tire wear.

All dana 30s are 27 spline

I believe that if you get the shafts for a 29 spline 8.25 and a locker or spiders you can do a cheap upgrade on the 8.25 its a 96 so it will have the weaker 27 spline axle shafts.

Id personally wheel it with a locked front on 33s

if you are running 31's you could wheel the !@#$ out of it with a locker in front and you will be fine, i was surprised that i never broke with 33's and i have a pretty heavy foot as well

why should he go to an 8.8 for 31's? that is just ridiculous. stock gears with 31's is perfectly fine, even 33's is okay. and he has to be able to weld or know someone to put new perches and shock mounts on. i vote to keep his current axles

no you can not get 29 spline shafts and locker. the 27 spline and 29 spline have different carrier sizes. so you would need to swap carriers, reset backlash etc. it would be more money than finding a 29 spline complete. and the 27 spline is strong enough for 33's
