Pretty much, take off u bolts, shocks, drive shaft, brake line, axle breather, (tires also of course).. Slide the old axle out, put in the new one in, hook everything back up.
Sounds pretty simple.... would this be a good time to swap out leaf packs as well, as I am upgrading from a stock xj to a 4" lift

Yeah it would, but the spring eye bolts are usually a huge pain and sometimes need to be cut out. I'd douse em in penetrating oil for a few days prior to swapping the springs.Originally Posted by ctjkelley

I assume your 8.8 was orignially out of an Xploder, didn't some of the Xploders come with 4 wheel Disks?
If your new 8.8 has disks vs. drums, that may be the only differance with swapping it in.

I hate to be Captain Obvious, no I don't, I love it... anyway since you said you never did a swap. 1) Axles are heavy... really heavy and it's going to nose-over on your jack once the bolts are off. 2) Removing those dang e-brake clips are probably the most difficult part of the swap. Do that before you start un-bolting stuff.
Captain Obvious, out.

I would post a picture of my toe nail on my big toe..but thats kinda gross.
I dropped an xj dana 44 on it last july..hurt like ****. Its still half black from where I dropped it. I have no idea how it didnt literally snap my toe off. They are somewhat heavy..not unmanageable heavy but they are not fun to drop.

I think the lifting portion will be ok as I will get my squad from our fire station to help with that...sorry bout your toe that's no fun either. Does anyone have any pics of the the e-brake clips so I can see exactly what those look like

If it has disc brakes you will have to rig up the xj parking brake cables or buy new ones. Make sure the 8.8s tubes are welded

Welding? Well you weld the tubes in the housing. Google is your friend here because thats one of the most common issues with a 8.8.Originally Posted by ctjkelley
