I have an 89 dodge ramcharger sitting around and was wondering if anyones used a dodge 9 1/4 rear end in their jeep? The fronts a dana 44 so I know I wanna use that.
The eazyest axles to find buy me is a D 60 out of a 94-03 Ram 2500-3500 for the front mine was $150 and rear is a chey 14 bolt. They go around $100-300. You will need to do a shave kit on one of those. You could scrap that old ram and have almost all the $$ to buy those. Just saying.

Stay away from the Rams with a CAD and be aware the unit bearings aren't the strongest out there. Ford 60 out of an 80s F250 or F350 would be a better option.

You couldn't be more wrong. In every way. The CAD Ram has much bigger shafts. It is a CAD witch is not a bad thing at all. Just run a cable. Now the unit bearings do go bad under a Ram that is way heaver then a XJ. Note the unit bearing on that 60 is over twice as big as the one on a 30. I was un sure about them as well until I asked about them on Pirate 4x4. The tread is in the XJ section the title is Axle out of a Ram. Just look at the picks of the shafts! Oh and an F250 built in the 80's is not a solid axle.
You are getting ready to do a major axle swap that if done wrong will make your jeep scrap iron. I would suggest alot more research on the subject and maybe a little outside guidance on hand when you do the swap. All the info is here most of the time with pics. Not alot of posts here but been creeping the site for awhile and fabricating all my own stuff for years. Not saying dont do it just take baby steps.

I have never done an a arm style axle swap before but done several leaf spring style swaps. Fabricated my own mounts and such. The front end I would have a shop weld on the arm mounts so I know they're right.
