axle seal leaking dana 30
i have replaced the axle seal on the axle disconnect side several times and still find a way to leak out of axle tube. i even went to dealership to make sure i got the right seal and replaced seals on each side of diff evan tho they say there is not to be one between diff and axle disco . gear oil is still finding away out of end of axle. does anyone have a answer ?

Be careful, by putting a seal between the diff and the disconnect, you are cutting off the supply of gear oil to the disconnect(not good). If you have replaced the 2 piece shaft with a single (aka nondisconnect shaft) then you are ok. As mentioned above, you could have a groove worn in your shaft where the seal rides. They may make a repair sleeve for it like the harmonic balancer repair sleeves, but I have never seen one. Sometimes a quick polishing with emory cloth will smooth the area enough to seal. I have also had good results by not seating the seal as far into the bore it fits into so it rides on a different section of the shaft. Maybe some of our more knowledgable members can offer more insight.
