Axle mount control arm bushings
Installing a long arm on the Cherokee, and my axle control arm bushings are looking pretty shot. I'm assuming they are pressed in the housing, so any good ideas to get them out? Actually just need to do the drivers side, I'm going three link. Next question is what to replace it with, a stock bushing or is there better options out there?

I just did mine.
They are a pain. I used a drill bit and drilled through the rubber to weaken it, then a BIG punch to knock that out, then a coping saw/knife together at different times to get the rest of the rubber out. THe bushing I used was a two piece poly one, with metal insert. I did not have to remove the pressed in OEM band. I should have the part number I used tomorrow.

I've used a big socket and hammer and a few good whacks and they come right out, the metal sleeve included. Stock replacements are dirt cheap at any parts store and last forever.

Thanks for the replies, should be easier then I thought I guess, especially with the axle completely out and on stands right now. Also swapping in axles from one of my other cherokees with 4:56 gears and lockers front and back while I do the lift. I like the idea of that GEN right flex joint there, removing every potential bind point sounds good to me.

I used an air chisel to knock them out. Took about 5 seconds a side. I only have a 3.5 inch lift but I'm wearing factory control arm bushings out on the axle side every 15k miles. I'm upgrading next time around. I'll be using the Currie Johnny Joint that is made for the housing.

Just ordered the Johhny Joint, thanks for the info! I knew there had to be something out there better than stock.
