Default auto dimming rear view mirror

So I got in my Jeep last night and my rear view mirror was laying on the floor. Iv always liked dimming rear view mirrors. Has anyone ever put one in there xj? What car did you get it from and how much did you pay for it?
Thanks for any input.

Helped a friend put one in his XJR, alittle different but should be about the same. Got the mirror from Eba,y non jaguar, and wired it up to his existing wiring harness. I believe it was constant power, ignition power and ground. The mirror does the rest.

For the temp you need the sensor too which is alittle more work to do but should be easy to install. They are stand alone systems on older cars, aka not heads up display that says the temp of your butt cars

did an autodimmer on mine, got from a dodge durango at the jy. mounting peice on the glass was the same, has 4 wires, you only need to hook up two, one for power and one for ground, the other two were for the autodimming outside mirrors and one for the backup lights to stop it from dimming when in reverse, and are not really needed. cost 6 dollars at the you pull it jy.

What a coincidence! Went to adjust my mirror yesterday & the whole thing came off in my hand, including the bracket from the glass. So since I have to do work, an auto-dimming mirror like the one in my Durango would be great. My XJ already has a full size overhead console with map lights & compass. So all I would need is an auto-dimming mirror. The btm24 link doesn't help me. Hope the OP doesn't mind me piggy-backing the thread. The info would help us both. Does anyone know if the Durango mirror would work with our XJs?

Edit: crap! jmxj - you answered my question while I typed! Excellent info - I love you. Getting dressed & to the JY I go. Do you have any more details. I see what you said, but it's not very clear. If you do a write-up that would be perfect. Pics would also help. You are THE man!

Connected it to the wiring for the dome lights in my overhead console, don't, remember the color code, will pull down my ohc and check if needed, the mirror will have several numers on the back, google them all and one will be model nember, and a few of the results will be wiring diagram, but will check mine if you guys need me to. Oh, and pull the wiring on the mirror down a little at the junkyard, it disconnects close to edge of the headliner and leaves you bout 10 inch to take with mirror

Will it just be 12v into the mirror its self? I don’t have a OHC Any suggestions where I should run power from?

12 volt switched (only powered when ign switch is on) to prevent battry drain. without the ohc you might still have the wiring harness in place, or might have one in place for lighted mirror on sunvisor
