Auto box heating problem..........HELP?

Auto box heating problem..........HELP?
When in 4 low driving in sand, or towing, my engine cuts out, then restarts when cooler? Sounds like the auto fluid gets too hot?? its not the engine because the temp is below 100 with fan still off!!
Anyone experienced this before??
Appreciate any help out there??
