Default aussie or spartan? dana 30

I know that some of u will say "do ur research" i have and learned its damn near the same thing so lookin for personal oppinions, pros and cons. Why you like or dislike one or the other.

I am running a 4.5 lift with 33s dana 35 in rear with aussie locker and yes it is my dd but on a month will be moving close to work so not much commute.

I am lookin to order tomorrow so lookin for quick choice. And oh ya ordering off ebay. Is that a bad thing? I just dont want to be ripped off i dont have no experience with ebay?

Thanks guys

You're putting it in the front, when you're in 2wd there won't be any noise. And offroad you'll be paying attention to too many other things to care about locker noise.
In my TJ, I have a 88 LSD rear and an aussie D30 up front and love that combo. I DD'd it like that for 5 years. Now that I've got an XJ for DD, the TJ is undergoing a transformation. The aussie will migrate to the XJ and I'm going to be installing a LSD into my 8.25.

So the Aussie gets 5 stars from me.

I'm installing a aussie and a no-slip right now. I think that the spartans come with a hardened cross pin so thats a plus. Not 100% sure on that though.

My spartan in the xj was louder than my aussie in my tj. But both work and are not that bad unless making a u-turn. That said, the Spartan came with bigger pins and a cross shaft. I had to clearance the carrier to fit the Aussie and the Spartan went right in.

Hmmm. Ok thanks guys i looked at a couple local stores in co. And cant ficd a aussie unless i order online but much rather pick it up ya know. High country 4x4 here in denver has 2 in my price range. One is the spartan for 284.00 the other is a lock rite for 303.00 from what i read the lock rite locks and unlocks when on and off the gas? Sounds good cuz would make snow driving much easier i think right? Anybody got good or bads on the lock rite?

they are the same design. so both will make the same noises and have the same install. get whatever is cheapest. Aussies are typically cheapest from them directly.

I say neither one! The stock D-30 carrier is weak. If you are running bigger than a 33 then you need a full case locker.

Ask me how I know!

I have broken everything there is to break on a D-30 including carriers and R&P.

I'm now running the most polished "turd" on the planet but I love the ground clearance and being able to glide/slide over stuff.

For a comparision, here are 3 D-30 carriers. The Detroit(full case) locker is on the left, D-30 3.73+ carrier in the middle, and a D-30 stock 3.55 carrier on the right.

See how a stock carriers have no meat to it where the full case is all beef.

I know a full case locker is more money to purchase and install but its also silent(no knocking/clicking around corners) and much stronger. I have owned 2 D-30 Aussies and while the lockers are strong as hell the stress is put on the carrier and it won't take it.

JMHO

And I have wheeled with 35's for over 2 years with a D30 in the tj and xj with no problems. I have broken ears off of the axle shafts and pulled ball joints out of the axle by driving them out with broken u-joints but never broken a stock D30 carrier. It all has to do with how you use the skinny pedal! The TJ has a low pinion D30 and the XJ has a high pinion D30 but both have held up good in what I have put them thru. The TJ is unbraced and the XJ is trussed. Don't be afraid to run a lunchbox in a D30.
