Aussie(ratcheting,lunchbox) Locker behavior...is it normal?
So I have owned my XJ for about 2 months now,and I'm getting used to the squeaks and noises it makes on a regular basis.Today something odd happened twice when I was making a right turn.
Keep in mind I have an Aussie Locker in the rear of my XJ.
So I went into the turn like I have at any other time and a loud "pop" occurred.
Almost like a manual gearbox popping out of gear. However my XJ is an automatic.
Does this occur from time to time with a locker? Its never happened before so it really got my attention.Should I be concerned?
2nd item I have a question about also concerns the locker and its behavior.
I was out wheeling and attempting to cross an area of uneven ground in 2 wheel drive. The vehicle struggled and I gave it some gas. The passenger tire spun but the drivers side wouldn't budge at all. This caused my vehicle to start to drift left as I accelerated through the obstacle. The drivers rear tire was in the fenderwell a little and the pass rear tire was hanging down but able to get full traction. So you can picture the vehicle was flexing.
Seems odd as I thought the locker was supposed to make both tires spin at the same time like a posi. Did this occur because my pass rear wheel was on less stable conditions and the drivers rear wheel was planted firmly?

Yea, My aussie pops sometimes. Just take it slow on the corners.
And about its behavior, Out wheeling on a mix of sand and rock I never hear it ratchet, so it is always locked. If you accelerate hard, it should always lock
Probably should invest in some 90 weight (or 145{I don't, I like to hear the ratcheting working}) and some RTV and crack open the diff to make sure all your teeth are there.
