Tons of threads on this and your responses will be split. I've run both and they work pretty much the same. Spartan does have the hardened shaft and it way easier to install, not that the Aussie is hard.

Been running mine 2 years and haven't needed any. I ran the same springs in my Aussies for over 5 years and they were like new, can't say that for the lockrights I used to run.

The springs are easy. The pins are what sucks.I read the directions & they were either wrong or I don't read well.
The trick with the pins is to leave the cross shaft out so you can spin the axles independantly.Spin the halfs so that the nook for the spring lines up with the X-shaft hole.Put the pin with the "step" facing in the hole for the springs & spin the opposite side so the hole for the pin lines up with the hole the pin is in (spring hole). The problem I had is the inner most piece of the locker (the one that's clearanced for the C-clip) kept wanting to seperate from the other locker peice.
Not that hard to figure out,it's just dumb they can't write instuctions in simple American.

installed mine wrong last week ( forgot one thrust washer...doh
) but just dis assembled and re assembled in about an hour. I feel I could confidently say I could install an aussie locker in someones jeep 8.25 rear, in under an hour. With one eye covered haha

You'll need to pull the carrier and ring gear to get it in so the springs are a bit easier than a rear c-clip axle but like stated put them in before the center pin.

I have run Lockrights, and Aussies in the past before I went to ARB's on my TJ and YJ. I run a Spartan in my XJ . IMO Lockrights are Junk I had 2 of them break (holes for the pins wallowed out ) I never had any issues with The Aussies over 3 years of abuse. My Spartan in the XJ was by far the easiest to install, and the Pins are HUGE compared to Aussie and lockright . I would buy another Spartan again , I would also consider a Aussie IMO either way you cant go wrong

As he said, unfortunately you will probably have to pull out the carrier and pull off your ring gear because there is no way you are getting that locker in with 4.56 gears. I dont really know if you have to setup gear preload or lash again after removing the ring gear? I suppose not if you make sure you remember what shims go where.
