You also need to get or make a tool for adjusting backlash and bearing preload. As the 8.25 doesn't use shims just a threaded adjuster.

So making this tool is cheaper than the spanner wrench to do the same thing?? Or is it quicker/easier this way? Haven't done an axle "yet"

What does the spanner wrench look like?

You need to be able to torque whatever you make to at least 75 ft-lb.

It's easier since you need to get the torque on the adjusters. I did it similar the same way. Bought a nut the then, I ground it it fit the adjuster, got some old pipe laying around did a tap on the pipe then threaded the nut on, welded it to pipe on each side.
One thing is to make two one for each side so you don't have to keep moving the tool in each side to get backlash correct. Don't need to but makes it easier.

It is 0-60 in. lb.
