Default ARB or Truetrac for the Rear...

OK I am having one of those doubting myself days, in the coming month I am planning to do my front and rear axles...

For the front I already have an ARB to install (picked it up for $300 used), the compressor is already mounted, I'm considering sleeving the dana 30, upgrading the axle shafts, and the front should be good to go...

For the rear I'm really having a dilemma on choosing between an ARB and a Truetrac...

I like to way a Posi performs on wet, snow, or icy services....but since I already have an ARB front and the compressor run....will I regret going with a truetrac and not an ARB?

This XJ will be used for off-roading and exploring, it will see some snow and slick roads but also desert terrain and rocks...

What would be my pro's and con's with each?

I would go arb because you are set already. I run a welded rear and have no issues on slick roads.

I have an Aussie and can only speak for it, to me though if you have an arb for the front, might as well do one in the rear...

ARB, you already have a compressor. Do it.

This is one of those things that "you get what you pay for". Consider maybe a Yukon Zip locker? same as ARB, but a bit cheaper. I think better warranty too.

I vote the arb also. You already have the compressor and you're already going to be paying to set the gears up.

Just think of how cool you'll sound telling people you got ARB's front and rear 8)

If you actually wheel it you'll hate a LSD. Lift a tire and it's about as useless as an open diff. Get a locker and leave the LSDs to the street rods.

So do they make a zip locker for the 8.25? What's your experience with it verse or Arb?

I don't think there is a Zip Locker for the 8.25.

For off-road I would go with a locker or selectable locker.

Spend the cash (save if you have too) and get the ARB. Mine has been extremely reliable and works exactly like it is supposed to. You already have the compressor and everything plus you get another cool switch haha. That is my opinion.

Did you upgrade to the braided stainless lines or stay with the plastic?

Go with the ARB, mine has been issue free. I have the plastic lines, been OK so far. If you have old air hose you can run the line in that for protection. I carry a repair coupling and spare line in case I do break a line.

I stayed with the plastic wrapped in convoluted tubing/routed high. This one has been in for about 5.5 years and its held up through all kinds of abuse. My last one (different Jeep) Lasted about 10 years and was still going when I sold it.

I did not know about the braided line... Might be worth it. Good routing will save it from most everything though.

While many, actually nearly everyone, is suggesting going with the ARB, consider this...

If you daily drive this, an LSD in the rear can be really beneficial for those unforeseen slick spots or black ice mixed in with dry pavement during you daily commute. There may be light rain that you don't want to do a full lock-up for, but the LSD would handle it well.

When you go off-road, you'll have the LSD and the ARB.

Just my opinion, but you know how that goes...
