After hearing that forum user Big David has the eBay variant and has worked well for over a year, I decided to give it a shot. I ordered it yesterday, and hope to have it installed this weekend.

Here's a good read that may help you in your decision.

I'm not too knowledgeable on the spray coatings, but when I last had my stock header out, I sprayed it with some high heat paint rated for grills & exhaust. The manifold burned it all off eventually, and now it is cracked. I can't say that the coating is to blame...stock manifolds are going to crack eventually anyways...but it may have been a factor.

I ordered mine ceramic coated. I think from this guy.

I have no complaints.

I had my header and downpipe coated by Swain Tech. I've only had it back on the road for about 200 miles, but so far I like it. It's visibly thicker than Jet Hot, and they did a nice job with it.

Unfortunately I can't really compare it with before, because I did a whole motor swap at the same time. There's still a lot of heat under the hood. But I have a set of Z34 vents for that.

Do you guys think that the Pacesetter headers available on Amazon are a good choice? Any experience with them?

I can't speak for the XJ application, but for GM LS truck motors, they're known as a relatively low price, good quality set of headers. Lots of guys use em, and are happy with them. I assume the XJ ones would be the same quality.

Thanks, XJNVA!

The reviews on Amazon are atrocious, to say the least, but I'm willing to give them a shot. I'm thinking I'll strip the paint, run them for some time and if they don't crack, I'll get them blasted and ceramic coated.

But do those trucks have flex pipes between the header and the rest of the exhaust? I think that's pivotal in the likelihood of the headers cracking on our 4.0's. It's just a solid pipe straight off of the motor. So if your motor mounts are in bad shape, it could accelerate the cracking.

I'm not sure I'll easily be able to install a flex section for this, but I sure would like to if possible to better protect against it.

I just did went through this. I bought my header for $100 to my door off ebay.

Bad Gasket though so I just spent $10 on a new FelPro. Either way worth the cost. Info in my Build Thread.

Thanks for the input, guys. At any rate, I'll be using Prothane motor mounts and a Daystar transmission mount on the '97 automatic, so I'm not concerned about the engine moving much at all relative to the rest of the vehicle.
