Default Another paint code question

So I got a can of color-matched paint made at NAPA. The guy (I know him) took the code out of the door himself and I got the can, it looks correct, blah, blah, blah, but its NOT the same color. Ive got the Desert Sand and this is more of a true gold.

So, on the site below there are two codes for the Desert Sand Pearl. Im wondering if they actually made two different Desert Sands with two different codes and my door might be wrong, etc. I know paint fades over time, etc., but this color is NOTICABLY off. Any ideas?

The last 2 leeters of both codes are TD, which are the codes that matter. They're the exact same thing, and there was only 1 shade of desert sand pearl.

That is correct, the last 2 letters are what matters. Problem is, there is probably a couple different varients to that color.. For example, there's a standard to your color.. But then there may be a greener, or bluer, or finer metallic, or courser metallic variations.. Your buddy at napa needs to check and see if there is variations and check the color chips outside (not in a garage) and see if there is one that matches up better. Golds and silvers are the hardest colors to match up. I know cuz I paint cars.. Hope this helps.

what he said^^^ i am a 20yr journeyman bodyman/paint tech, not all these cars were painted from the same vat of paint, when more paint was mixed it wasn't always the same, the longer the color has been around and used the more variances they tend to have.

also if your jeep has been repainted at any time who knows what was used on it, find your local paint jobber and bring in your gas filler door alot of times they will match for no charge(just the cost of the paint), most napa's use martin senour paints which i have never been a fan of anyways.

I really appreciate the info everyone. Guess I need to have it looked into a little more. My buddy at NAPA just took the code out of the door and ordered it. Im not POSITIVE, but I think its Duplicolor or PPG. I dont have the can handy so I cant tell.

Im only using it as a touch up. I bought it to paint a new (for me) cowl, and it looked great going on, etc., but when it dried I said, "Huh, that looks darker." Then put it up to the Jeep and sure enough, it is.

I dont paint lots can change depending on an extra drop of this or that, and Im REALLY hoping I can get a can of the "right stuff" made up. Ill look into it more.

Again, thanks for the info, its much appreciated.

most paint jobbers can put it into a spray can also if you don't have a spray gun, if you are using a basecoat from a 2 stage system you will need to clear also.
ps if you are brush touching chips and what not it isnt going to match perfect anyways, the metallics wont lay down correctly.

Spraying from a can, just touching up rockers, the cowl, etc. Unfortunately there are no real "paint shops" around me. Im in NORTHERN Maine, and there isnt anything near me. NAPA is the closest thing, and theyre 40 minutes out. No other place to get paint made. Might have to just deal with the whole thing being off until I can spray the whole Jeep, which I plan on doing in a year or two.
