Ill start by saying im new here. I just bought a Jeep to play around with. Ive previously owned a 89 Cherokee pioneer and an 88 Wagoneer. What ive got now is a 93 Cherokee. I hope to start a build thread soon. Not a whole lot of money to throw at it currently. Ill go into better detail when i start the build thread. It has a 83 AMC 258 in it. I was hoping some one would have pictures of one in a cherokee so i could see how things should be. It looks like it was thrown in very quickly. Ill get a picture up tomorrow. Thanks for any help.

258 would have been a downgrade for a 93 model. Even if it came with a 4 banger you'd be better off without the carbed 4.2. Even with a Webber my YJ hates cold starts and hills.

You're gonna have a helluva time finding a picture of a 4.2 in an XJ. Must have been what the PO had sitting in his yard at the time.

I could post a pic of my Cj7 with a 258 if that would help. I doubt there are to many Xj's running that engine though.
Oh yeah, welcome to the forums.

Sorry guys I dont get to much time on the computer. And currently can not upload pics to the forum. I already cleaned up most of the issues. The upper radiator hose was to pieces of hose and 2" black iron 90 with a temp gauge. So i replaced it with a stock hose witch fit fine. and found the stock temp sensor. PO had put a painless wire harness in(not that painless when you did not put it in) Cleaned that up. Next is what to do for air filter. PO cut a whole in the hood and was using some duct work for "cowl induction". Not 1st pick for a motor either but its what is there. Next question is witch wire feeds and witch returns from the fuel sending unit. Thanks

Hey now!, I have a 71 IH (AMC) 258 in mine with an 87 4.0 cylinder head. There's nothing wrong with the 258. It's a real durable motor not a lot of HP but more of a low end TQ motor.Originally Posted by blue_on_blackXJ

Haha I didn't mean anything by it. My YJ has a 4.2 so I'm allowed to crack on it if I want! I do agree though very durable. I've gotten that sob to start in weather so cold some fuel injected cars weren't starting. I'm just sayin it wouldn't be my first choice to swap in.Originally Posted by Outlaw Star
