Default Alternator relocation bracket

I think i can fab my own, but was wondering if anyone has already done one that fits onto the existing AC compressor mounting holes?

The mounting holes for AC and the alternator brackets do not line up, has anyone fabed an adapter plate that goes between the oe AC mount and alt. oe bracket?

or complete new fabrication that will fit both AC mount and the alternator?

I've considered this mod, only you need to re-drill and grind down the ac mount. I would like to be able to leave the ac mount intact and un-modded.

Going high solves problems when mounting larger case alternators and other types of alternators that are unable to fit the lower area and oe bracket. The alternator becomes easier to service and replace. It also takes the alternator out of much of the mud, salt, water, corrosion, etc.

You would have a larger choice of the type of alternator that could be installed. The OE alternator is limited mainly to it's size, design and space constraints. Obviously it was placed low to make room for the AC.

I'm still going over ideas of using two alternators.

I have a HO alternator that I would like to place up high.

Leaving the other one low should solve any belt problems.

Can't tell you how many alternators I had to take apart to repair because they are located at the bottom of the motor, I am moving mine as well, also to help accommodate my York Compressor. You might want to look into using the YJ A/C Bracket install which mounts the Alternator off the A/C Bracket (I want to keep my AC)- hope this link is acceptable to post. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1016319

Looks ok ..

I don't use AC, its been non functional for years, but would like to keep the mount intact in case someone needs to fix the AC.

I have a couple of ideas to fab a new one but will need to experiment some to see what will work. If grinding down and drilling the ac bracket is acceptable then it appears there's no problem mating an oe bracket to the ac mount as described in the Super Simple write-up.

For those considering rebuilding an OE alternator. There are re-build kits and parts available. A new rectifier cost anywhere from ~35.00 to ~70.00 dollars. Here is a video that shows the dismantle process and inspection of the rotor, replacement of the bearings and brushes.

If you have a large case Denso, for around 200 dollars, you should be able to upgrade to 220 amps using one of these kits. These basically are alternator rebuild kits with an upgraded (heavy duty) stator, rectifier and bearings. To find the correct kit enter a Denso or OE part number(s) ... or vehicle information such as "Grand Cherokee" in the search box and look under "Application" from the upgrade kit's web page.

All I did was bolt a piece of 1/4" steel plate to the compressor bracket, and then bolted the alternator bracket to the plate. Measure up a new belt and you're good to go. I've been super happy with this mod, I used to wreck an alternator every month, this last one has lasted over a year and if it does go out, its now super easy to change.
I'm looking into running a WJ setup, just for that clean factory look, also so I can get my compressor back to use for onboard air.

What size belt did you go with?

The pulley needs to fit so doesn't interfere with the shroud, or the shroud needs to be trimmed back.
