So I had a powermaster alternator and it bit the dust. Im gettina a winch soon and I run 6 high powered lights and 6 rocklights besides the stock Jeep lights. Any ideas?

mean green's are nice. but i just did the 98 grand cherokee v8 136amp alt and trimmed up the alt brakets to make it fit... picked up a reman from o'riely autoparts.

upgraded battery cables are a must and really make the difference also. i got mine from 5-90 on here. i think thats his name

Yah - and I'm still doing them. Links in sig.

Pillage around, I've done a list of unconfirmed donors for up to 160A using COTS parts available in the local parts house. And loads cheaper than Mean Green.

The lighting and suchlike would benefit from the upsized alternator, but the winch isn't going to be fully powered by the alternator - unless you install three. Winch loads are up around 350-600A! If you're planning on using the winch, upgrading your battery to increase the reserve capacity (abbreviated RC, measured in Ampere-hours or A-h/Ah) is a must. For setups where it's planned to use the winch a good deal (some SAR or utility rigs I've helped with, for instance,) it's useful to install a secondary deep cycle battery and wire the winch to that, and then have the deep cycle isolated from the main (engine OFF) or on charge (engine ON) using a solid-state isolator or a solenoid isolator.

The difference between the two? The solid state isolator will not allow the primary/starting battery to be tapped by the accessories (winch) on the deep cycle, the solenoid isolator will. It's a matter of just how much capacity you are really going to need, when you come down to it. (If you need that much, tho, I'd suggest secondary isolation and two deep cycle batteries en banc to increase the reserve capacity of the system. The secondary isolation will allow you to replace the deep cycle batteries individually, if one should fail - vice having to replace them both at the same time, every time.)

I just replaced my alternator last month and I looked into the gc v8 alternator and none of the auto parts stores showed a 136A alternator. I think they were around 120. I got a 117A made for a cherokee.
