Not true. If you have vibes then you can get a Transfer case drop or a Slip Yoke Eliminator, in which at 4.5" of lift you can use an xj front driveshaft in place or your rear driveshaft.

Wouldn't that qualify as "a custom length rear shaft"?

Yes you will probably need a longer rear shaft. You can have one built which isn't that expensive or do what XJ_maniac_newbie said and use a front DS.

Getting a longer rear shaft isn't going to help anything. The vibrations are still gonna be there you wouldn't need but an inch more length probably. You won't run the risk of pulling it off the output shaft, but if your gonna spend some money, spend it right.

It does help, but Tom Woods explains it better than I would:

Often referred to as a Slip Yoke Eliminator (SYE) fixed yoke kit, short shaft kit or tail shaft conversion. This kit does not actually eliminate a slip yoke but rather moves it to a different part of the dive train. On the original application the provision for compression and extension of the drive shaft is a function of both the drive shaft slip yoke and the out-put shaft on the transfer case. After the conversion, this provision for compression and extension becomes a function of the drive shaft only.

You will then have a drive shaft that is longer than stock which will reduce joint angles and the ability to use a Constant Velocity (CV) double cardan type drive shaft. This will reduce driveshaft vibrations for smoother operation and a longer life on the related components

If you want to get technical, no. Its not custom because its not custom made, its an OEM product that comes stock on your vehicle. The only thing "custom" about it is the application it would be used in.

I had to buy a 100ft roll when I did my bastard packs, but I used it full length and sold the other 75ft I didn't use.

As for just the little end pads, i dunno

A roll of what? To go between the leafs? I also have a bastard pack, Dakota. But it rides too stiff and I'm taking a couple leafs out. Thought I would get some new pads while I'm at it

I know what an sye is. I was saying that a longer stock style drive shaft isn't going to help, you won't need enough length added to make a difference in the vibrations.
