my advice is that anytime you do a lift, you're better off getting full leaf packs that are 1" smaller than the total height you'd eventually like to reach and get extended shackles to get that extra inch

Hey everybody, how's it going? I just installed my RC 2" Budget Boost. Theres a set of 4 33x12.5in tires for FREE on craigslist on Jeep rims. I am almost definitely getting them, despite the hour ride. Is there a chance I can get these tires on my Jeep. I don't mind trimming the fenders to make these fit, but how bad will they rub on the LCA? If it's too much rubbing, then I'll just sell them to buy some 31s. Thanks.

 

they will fit with alot of trimming... if there stock jeep axles they will rub on the control arms... you can run WJ control arms (search google for the mods involved) and they wont rub on the control arms (also have them for sale) or you can run spacers or different wheels with some backspacing... theres your options! but your gonna rub top and front to back... lol

 

well...considering that certain ppl on this forum have fit 37s on 2.5" of lift, yes with enough trimming they will fit. and will give you big tires on a low lift. good start for a low COG rig

If they're on backspaced rims they shouldn't rub too bad, if at all on the LCAs.

 

thats my new goal... 3in and 37's... now if i could just sell my frickin 8.5in lift... lol

 

Really not sure about the backspacing on the rims. I'm awaiting pictures from the guy, but all he said was they were 33x12.5 inch tires on D-Window rims...then he said they were FREE and I was sold. And I like the whole idea of a low COG rig, considering I don't want to end up on my roof anytime soon.

 

maybe i need a lesson in tire/wheel selection

if i order 31x10.5xR15 tires do the wheels have to be 10.5 as well? If both 10.5 and 8.5 inch wheels are okay than which size is best recommended? Does it really make a difference? I'm getting a 3 or 3.5 inch lift depending on whatever is the smallest that wont scrape. I don't wanna do any fender trimming.

Also, how much of a lift can I do without needing a TC drop?

 

Depends on your Jeep, some people can go 4.5" with no vibrations or t-case drop and some have issues at 2" with no t-case drop. The general consensus is that 97 and newer XJs are more sensitive to being lifted as it relates to rear driveline vibrations due to a change in the t-case output. at 3" you should be okay but you won't really know until you lift it.

 

I wouldnt put a 10.5 wide tire on a 10" wide rim. id put a 10.50 wide tire on a 8" rim. I ou put a 10.50 wide tire on a 10: wide rim, the rim would get damaged more easily when you are wheeling. On a 10.50 wide tire on a 8" wide rim the side wall sticks out a little bit more and protactes the rim better

sounds like you shouldn't put a 12.5 inch tire on an 8 inch rim?

 

oh no no no, im putting my 33x12.5 wides on an 8" wide rim. you can put the 32x12.50s on an 8" wide rim, it all just depends on how much you want your side wall to stick out. of coures there is a point where it becomes excessive, like a 38x15.50 on an 8" wide rim.

 

Will that cause any excessive wear to the tire?

 

it shouldnt if you inflate it to factory specs. i have 10.50 wides on 7" wide rims in the rear on my jeep and they have worn perfectly
