Quote: Put a 4.5 inch rc lift on a 96. Added relocation brackets and new shackles to the leaves in the rear. I was dumb and didn't measure my before and after lift specs. Now I want to raise the front to level it. Without having to take the shackles off what's best next step. Should I just get 5.5 inch lift coils to out in front? Keep in mind I'm adding a tuff stuff bumper and winch to the front in a month or two. Heavy. So should I just go straight to 6 inch lift coil and shock? I think the back rose about an 1½. Inch. I can't make up my mind. Thanks ps. Don't want to use spacers
What components have you replaced so far? You're looking at a lot more than just springs to lift 6"

Long arm kit is on. New track bar and drop pitmPit arm. Etc. I know all that it takes. Just don't now how high. It should only take shocks and coils. Everything else is already done.

A lot of kits, especially from brands like RC, don't include half of the things you *should* replace, and problems arise. Just wanted to make sure you're set up properly.

You probably don't need your hand held quite as much as he does in this video, but it's only 5 minutes. You can determine your exact lift height, front and rear, or even at all four corners if you want to check for uniformity. Then you'll know exactly what you need to change.

I get the idea. That'll work. Break lines are long enough. I upgraded my tie rods. Should probably start thing about front axle slip but it can probably wait till I put in a sye and drivetrain in rear. Anything else I should keep in mind?

I want to get some 33s really soon but I'm not sure what size wheel I want. I'm thinking 33x12.5r16 woukd be a good size. Maybe a 15 or 17" wheel though. I cant seem to find good pictures of different sizes on a xj. What would you guys think the best size is? Pictures would be helpful too. Thanks
Edit: I have a 4.5" lift and I'm getting bigger fender flares with it too

Im running 31s on my 4.5 and they have to much room it almost looks weird. I am also putting on bushwhacker flares soon so I'm going through the same thought process. I feel like 33s won't be a very big difference so I'm gonna try a set of my buddies 35s and see what it looks like. Keep in mind my rear is about a 5.5 inch lift and the front probably will be soon

Hello all, I just bought a lifted XJ, the people I bought it from got it with the lift already installed as the previous owner was planning on turning it into a rock crawler so neither of us have any idea what the lift type is. I took some photos if anyone could help so I know what I need to replace/look for instead of just throwing a whole new lift kit into it. If there are any specific photos or better ones needed I can take them ASAP. Thanks.

options for 2" lift
Hello all. I recently purchased a stock 88 XJ for $2k with 155k on it. I am the third owner, and according to the person I bought it from, many of those miles were from the original owner towing the jeep behind an RV. Since buying it, I have built a folding bed platform in the back (folds up on a double hinge so that the back seats are still usable), replaced both battery leads, installed a headlight wiring harness, and am waiting on parts to do the valve cover gasket. The Jeep currently has 31" Pathfinder AT tires on it, and with the amount of rear suspension sag, they rub when I go over even the slightest bump with a load in the back.

I am looking into options for a roughly 2" lift and suspension upgrade to clear the tires and give me a bit more travel for rough roads. The back of my jeep currently sags a lot, which I think is due to both the leaf springs and shocks being original, stock parts. The rear leaf springs are basically flat, and as far as I can tell, the shocks are almost completely compressed as a standstill. I don't plan on putting tires any bigger than 31s on it, so as far as my research has told me, 2" should suffice. I use my jeep as a daily driver and for weekend trips to rock climbing destinations where the 4x4 and high clearance helps, but I'm not rock crawling or doing any serious off-road. My questions are as follows: Do I even need to lift it for 31's, or would putting new stock suspension suffice? What are the best options for 2" lifts? I want to keep it under $500 total for all parts.

The options I have researched are:
- ZJ front coils, Quadratec 7.0 shocks (2-3") with OME leaf packs in the back (with 2 leafs removed to get 2")
- Quadratec 7.0 Shocks (0-1.5" lift) all around, and HD crown lead packs in back

Any advice in either of the above options or other potential routes to take?

Lift Kit General question
hey, new here just bought my Cherokee last month.

looking to buy a lift kit in the near future and I’m liking the Rusty’s 4.5 inch kit and then later putting on the long arm upgrade kit.

first- opinions on the kit? install ease, initial and long term quality, off-road ability, etc

second- the jeep now has some sort of lift kit I was not told what it was. if anyone can figure it out off this info that’d be nice but it’s a short arm with silver arms and red bushings and bilstein shocks. factory leaf springs with an add a leaf and I’m fitting 31 inch tires with no rubbing in the front. looks to be about 2.5 inches taller.

if anyone has any major no gos or general opinions they have about what I should and shouldn’t do I’m absolutely open to ideas so lay it on me!

thanks

let me see the shocks- it looks to be a skyjacker somewhere between 4.5-6.5 inches with some aftermarket diff covers

Coil springs help!
Put in SD Crown coils in the front and HD Crown leafs in the rear several months ago on my 2000 XJ Sport (I know, should've went HD all around). To alleviate the insane rake from this setup (16.5" front height, 20" rear height) I put in 3" coil spacers. After letting everything settle for a few months I'm now at 19" all around with a full tank and no cargo. I would like to put in the correct set of springs that would give me a close to stock difference in height of 1/2", only taller obviously, so that I can get rid of the pucks altogether.

My super-newbie question is, would I just add the lift height from any aftermarket spring (let's say 2" coil springs, as an example) to the stock front height of 17.5" to calculate the final ride height I want (19.5" in this case)? Sounds dumb typing this, but I just want to be sure before I start ordering springs that I'm only assuming will work.......

If you are at 19" in the rear then that should be a 2" lift, so any 2" lift front springs should get you really close to the 19.5" that would be a 2" lift in the front also. If you have a heavy front bumper or winch you may need a little more height but a small spacer should fix that.

Awesome, thanks for confirming this! Now, time to shop...

Im installing an XJ 5.5" Critical Path Long Arm Lift Kit from Iron Rock off-road ( https://www.ironrockoffroad.com/prod...-lift-kit.html ) in my 97 XJ. I know I need a new drive shaft in the rear and was planning on using a stock xj front driveshaft. Will this work and does it matter what year driveshaft I get?
