38s aren't realistic on a Cherokee *unless* you plan to do a significant amount of work. Larger tires than that have been installed on them, but it isn't a simple affair

theres no 2inch "kit", you woukd have to piece one together. If you dont want to do that, the zone with full leafs is a great kit. There are coil and shackle kits, but i'm not too keen on those setups

I am looking at the Rancho 1.5" with a 3/4" shackle and the 3" TJ front springs, I believe those will give 2" on a Cherokee. That would be the closest to a 2 inch lift with full springs you can get.

I run the dorman hd springs with adjustable shackles and the rustys 2 inch xj lift coils and sit at 2 inches of lift all around.

Default 3" lift with 30" tire vs 31" tire

3" Rough Country lift w/ full leafs
Shocks: Rough Country & Old Man Emu on rear
Transfer case drop down kit, new track bar, tie rod bar, steering stabilizer

I first installed BF Goodrich A/T 31x10.5R15 - with my stock wheels there was some rubbing on the control arm.
So then installed 30x9.5R15 - no rubbing but now think its too small.
I'll reinstall the 31s but with new Black Rock D wheels 15x7 with -6 offset and that should eliminate the rubbing with the 31s.
(for anyone thinking of 31s with stock wheels, you could also just add 1.5" spacer and that could work to get rid of rubbing)

* Now looking at it I need front coil spacers to level the lift up front.

- 2” w/ 30x9.5r15
- 3” w/30x9.5r15

Here is the deal. This XJ will not only be my daily driver, but a vehicle that I will drive back and forth to Washington DC from Fort Bragg, NC at least monthly. I want to add a good bit of lift to it, but not so much that my ride and gas mileage suffers more than it needs to.

I understand that if I go with the 3”, I will more than likely need to drop the TC. In regard to the ride of the vehicle, what else should I be prepared to add to the current configuration?

If I go with the 2”, will the weight of upgraded steel bumpers (along with the settling of the coils/leafs) cause a drastic reduction in height? I would rather go with the 3” if that is the case.

I am not necessarily tight on money, but enlisted pay is not too hot. Thinking about Rustys 2” or 3” AAL Kits. Not too expensive and seem to be generally liked.

Tires: Trying to decide on BFG ATs or General Grabber AT2s.

Wheels: Either Trailmaster or Cragars. D windows.

How much backspacing would you guys recommend?

Like I said, I am new to the XJ community and lifts in general so most of this is way over my head. I have tried researching all of these things, but it seems like I find different answers everywhere I look. Maybe its because each Jeep reacts differently to being lifted? I have no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Holden

Check out my last post on this thread. I have a comparison of my 01 Sport with 30s and 31s. I recommend the 3" lift and I dropped the transfer case to reduce vibration for commuting. Without it on the highway you'll get vibration from the angle of the drive shaft. I order D windows too and used Photoshop to see how they looked first here before I ordered them. I commute a lot and this set up works great. I'm settling on the 31s with the D wheels now. The -6 offset (3.75" backspacing) eliminates the rub from the 31" tires and sticks out just a tad bit more, not too aggressive, more classic which I like (I'll post of pick next week when I get those in).

i would take off the t case drop... it does more harm than good. Your motor mounts will thank you later..... if you have vibes, you probably only need a quarter inch of drop. A 3 inch lift isnt big. Just use some washers

Default Need help figuring this out

I’ve got a 98 cherokee Classic, 3” lift, coils/leafs/shocks, adjustable track bar, lower control arms, just replaced drag link and tie rod. Put new 32x11.50x15’s on last week, on stock wheels. After putting new tires on, I started rubbing fender liner, on the driver side. Started looking and the driver side of the front axle, is 1” closer to the front bumper than the passenger side. Measures 69.5” from tire to tire on passenger side, 70.5” on drivers. These lower control arms are not adjustable, btw. I looked and you have some slight adjustment where the control arm mounts to the unibody, but both sides appear to be in the same spot and the arms are the same length.

I’d rather not be forced to buy adjustable lower control arms. Uppers are still stock. Will adjustable uppers fix this problem?

Which is better: using the stock leaf springs with a lift kit or buying a new set of leaf springs for the lift kit? I was looking at a rough country lift kit and it had the option for leaf springs or no leaf springs.

Also what 30" tires can i fit on stock wheels? What is the wheel size for 30" ATs?
