Ahhh, appreciate the education

I'm now torn with the possibility of going with a set of new wheels as I'm guessing a set of 235/75R15 on the stock wheel may not give me the look/feel I'm going for, hmmmmm. Possibly tall enough, but hope to hear some good news as to whether 30x9.5 is an option...? Thinking I'd get me a little closer..

A thought.. Wondering if could I do 30x9.5 in the rear and 235/75 in the front??

I currently sell tires for a living. I always tell people to avoid 30s. Thats because there really not all that much differrence between them and 235s. But they are more expensive and less options. To me, the only way you dont go with a 235 is if you go to a 31 inch tire because you really dont gain mich height from a 235 to a 30

^^Yep. Using Grabber AT2's as a example. 30's are 7/10 taller than 235's but cost $8.50 per tire more.

I run 235x15 on stock rims and don't have any problems at all at stock ( or slightly below) height. They fill the wheel well just right, no rubbing but not a lot of empty space around them and tucked in good and tight, in case your area has laws about the tread sticking out past the flairs.

That's why I went with the set up I run. LEO's won't pull you over to unless it's VERY noticeable. Problem can come at your yearly inspection station if the law is on them about following the book. Rare but it happens.

Makes a lot sense, appreciate it guys. I may end up splurging for a set of new wheels to widen the stance some, but feeling 235/75/15 the way to go.. I'll share some pics after..

Martlor shared some good sound practical advice here. As a fellow tire dealer I would give the same. As a longtime offroader I have found through experience that the less you have to hit stuff the less tire issues you are going to have. Even with skinny tires out wheeling trying to miss everything I could I have had to use up two spares and plugged a third to get back out. Wider tires just mean the more stuff you are going to hit. And the 235's float just as well as any of the rest with the correct amount of pressure. One of the most amazing things I have seen yet was where you can go with Model "T" Ford 3" tires on wooden wheels. I learned from this...

Hey Earl,

Toying with a set of new wheels. Any wheel vendor suggestions that allow you to filter by backspace dimensions?

The most advanced filter is definitely SummitRacing.com

From a marketing perspective, they would do well here. It would be a win win for both IB and Summit.

BRILLIANT!!! Thanks for the idea, I'll have to do this when I get my transfer case drop kit. This lift install had been a bear but mostly still having fun with it.

I have always liked the "pizza cutters" just like they had on the original WW2 Jeeps. There is a guy on here, I think he posted in the Low COG thread, that was able to run 31" tires at stock height by using the metric equivalent of 31x9 on stock rims. He said there is enough room in the wheel well for a tire that tall as long as you keep it narrow. You might need the slightly curved lower arms at most.

That, and you're gonna significantly widen your turning radius. Out of curiosity, I put a 33x12.5 on my XJ with a 4" BS wheel and no lift. I couldn't turn my tires, and I couldn't drive over a stick without rubbing, but it fit.
