So would that be a transfer drop to fix that if it happens? RC's really that bad? They have pretty good reviews...

Transfercase drops are bad for the jeep, if used should be very temporary. Slip yoke eliminator and cv driveshaft should be the permanent fix. RC is cheap for a reason, poor quality. The springs sag quick and ride bad. I started off with rough country and I'm slowly replacing everything.

There's always the cheap way and the right way with everything, the good news is you can kinda get an in between by using a sye with a front shaft from the junkyard.

What's a fair price on a built 8.8 rear with 4.88 gears, locked, chromoly shafts, etc., etc. assuming it's all in good working order?

Default Center of gravity

Hi, fellow crawlers. I have a 1990 XJ with a 3 inch lift on the front and I'm planning on a 3 inch lift for the rear as well. However I also have plans for 35 inch tires (currently running 33x10.5/15s), a roof rack, and a full size spare on the roof rack. But my only concern is the XJ's narrow and somewhat short wheel base. At what point would you say that it's unsafe to go higher? For those of you who crawl and wheel, would you avoid putting a roof rack along with full spare for fear of rolling easier? Thoughts and comments are appreciated

The wheelbase is longer than most offroad vehicles of its time, and the track width is respectable with offset wheels.

3" and 35s is definitely considered a Low Center of Gravity (LCoG) build. They can be incredibly successful, but it takes a lot more trial and error to make them work correctly. Also, more armor and stronger parts if you want to bring it home in one piece.

Ok, that's very reassuring. Thank you. But I was mainly wondering about the full roof rack and full size spare on top making it a higher center of gravity. Am I over thinking it? Or are my concerns justified? (Also, might custom fab a roof rack. Meaning it might be heavier than your average)

Depends on how far off-camber you plan to push it. For most people, it won't make a practical difference

Yes, but they're low pinion. TJ guys use late model (until '00) XJ front axles as upgrades

All TJs, '97-06

YJs ('86-95) had vacuum disconnect HP D30s, like early XJs, but they're leaf sprung and won't swap without a lot of modification

Default First timer xj owner. Need advice

Hey guys I just bought my first XJ. I Want to get a small lift and was looking for opinions. I don't even have the proper tools to do a lift myself (I live in an apartment.) I was thinking of just getting 2" coil spacers. I have no idea what size tires I'll be able to fit afterwards. Any help would be great! Thanks.
