Quote: Describe your lift set-up better.
Full leaf packs? Blocks? Shackles?
Coils or spacers?
Miles on lift?
Its Coils front and leafs in the rear no blocks and about 2000 miles on the lift

Quote: I run with 2.5 inches of lift and 33s. They are right you can only fit 31s on a 3 in lift IF you are not willing to cut the fenders.. I trimemed mine like crazy and could probably clear 35s on my 2.5in lift

So after reading some more and discovering the lack of delivery options from BDS I have decided on a 3.5" lift from Rubicon Express. I don't want to do any trimming and I am keeping my stock flares (for now). Still want to do 33" tires, is this do able? If not I will just stick with the 31" tires.

it is not doable without trimming. I had to trim to fit 31s on 3" lift.

YEMV Most can fit 31's without trimming as long as proper bumpstops are used to prevent too much uptravel.

Consider this... the largest tire that the XJ can fit without suspension lift is the 235/75r15 -or- roughly 29x9" tire... that's about 2" smaller than a 31" tire... so a 3" lift should -in most cases- fit.

rubbed on the bumper caps not the fenders. I bumpstopped for fenders but couldn't turn without that awful noise.

I'm planning on running 30's on my 2" lift XJ. looking for some advice and opinions of make and model for tires.
I like to go off roading and don't mind road noise caused by tires. If I minded noise I wouldn't have bought an XJ

Mine were a pain the first time I took them off. An impact wrench wouldn't bunch them. I had to fight one bolt the entire way out. I used a whole lot of penetrating oil, a long breaker bar w/ a pipe extension, and released my inner rage. It was not a fun job but it worked.

I was able to get the front passenger bolt off, the shackle bolt on the passenger side is out, but still stuck. I bought a big pry bar and propane torch. Hopefully the other side will cooperate.

Actually it is doable. You'll have to trim your fender flare a little bit just to prevent the tire from rubbing. You won't have any up travel though, you'll have to use a very long set of bumpstops. You will NEED lower control arms in order to make sure your tires arent too far back.

Keep me posted on this because I'm gathering tools and part for a lift. I've used heat on gun parts, and it worked. I'm undecided on trying this method with these bolts.

Is cutting them out a simple solution? I am planning to replace the old rusty bolts.

Alright so I have an np 242j transfer case. If I'm looking to put in an SYE then all I would need is a hack and tap sye correct? I'm almost sure that's correct, just mainly posting for recommendations on brand and to make sure I get the right one because on tom woods custom driveshafts website it lists a 242 early design and a 242 late design
