Hi guys, I'm deciding between 2 lift kits:

Now I'm aware that I can expect a better ride & possibly more longevity out of the OME kit, but I have some other questions about them:

1) The Rubi Express kit includes parts that the OME kit does not (New lower control arms, ball joints, new brake line for the rear). If I buy the OME kit, will I need to buy these parts separately, or can I do without them?
2) The Rubi Express kit advertises that it's easy to upgrade to their extreme-duty long arm system with their kit. Will it actually be any more difficult to make that upgrade with the OME kit?
3) Has anyone actually installed this particular OME kit from jeepinoutfitters? I've heard that these springs can actually lift your Jeep much higher than advertised, even after settling. I don't want this because I don't want the extra costs associated with a higher lift. If you've installed this kit, how did your lift turn out over time?
4) Rubi Express, as a company, seems more geared for off road performance than OME. Can I expect the Rubi Express kit to offer greater articulation and control off-road, or would they be pretty comparable?

Also, it seems like OME kits are assembled by each distributor (not that they assemble the actual OME parts, but they hand-pick which parts they want in the kit they offer, instead of being defined by OME), so if you have another distributor I should look at for a 3-3.5" lift, let me know. I do want the heavy duty OME parts.

Here's another question related to my last post, but thought it deserved a separate post:

With 3-3.5" lift, I would like to fit some ~31" tires under my Jeep. I'm told that to do this I will probably need non-stock wheels with a lesser offset (or greater, I don't know how that measurement works). That's a shame, because I love having "Jeep" on my wheels, and I like the simple, less-modified look. If I do need a different offset, what amount am I looking for? Are there any wheels from other Jeeps that would have a suitable offset? Possibly the MOAB wheels from a Rubicon?

Finally, what about wheel spacers? The main argument I hear against them is that they wear your bearings, wheel studs, and steering knuckles down prematurely, but I don't see how they would do this any more so than offset wheels would.

1.) You can get away with stock control arms at 3", but should get new ones.
2.) Either lift can be made into a long-arm kit, but at 3-3.5" you probably wont want long arms.
3.) From what I've heard OME sits fairly close to their advertised height. However, RE usually sits higher than their advertised height, especially their leaf springs.
4.) Both kits will flex nicely and are arguably the best 3" lift kits on the market. You will not regret buying either. I recommend them both. Check out DPG Offroad for the OME kit. You can also make your own kit by piecing it together. It can be time consuming, but it can allow you to get the exact parts you want, nothing extra, and possibly save money.


Dont run spacers. Spacers are bad. You want wheels that have a backspacing of 3-4". There are write-ups on how to install stock center caps on steel wheels. Moab wheels will work up to 31" tires, but have to be from a TJ. JKs have different bolt patterns.

Spacers are bad if you buy cheap ones. If you want to run spacers, buy Spidertrax.

Now, the reason spacers are frowned upon is that they need to be properly torqued and checked monthly. Well over 90% of people on this site (myself included) would not properly maintain spacers, and that is why most people here don't recommend them.

Finally, I believe he has the wheels that say JEEP on them like the Jurassic Park YJ.

No, I have the ones you can see in my profile picture. They say "Jeep" on the center cap. I actually just saw on another thread that spacers will make you fail safety inspection in Utah, too, so I'll probably stay away from them.

SteveTcook, it seems like you and I are looking at just about the same kit. I'm going to go with the super ride 3" though as it's cheaper and I'm a prissy little girl.
