I bought a cheap-o 30 dollar tach from autozone. Got everything wired up but i cant figure out where the actual tach wire goes. Has anyone else done an install? It says it goes to the negative side of the coil. Where is that? looked through my chilton and couldn't find anything on it.

 

i googled it and found somone saying its the green and white wire coming off the coil.. good luck

I have to laugh at the Moderator repeatedly suggesting that the OP use a JY cluster instead of an after market tach.

Really unnecessary, and considering the factory gauges are severely inaccurate anyway, they really aren't any better than not having them at all.

Aftermarket is the way to go if possible. Way more accurate.

OP, I have two aftermarket tachs, both came with wiring guides to many vehicles. I will look tonight to see if mine gives the color and location.

 

It's the green wire on mine. I am also using the sunpro tach from AZ

I had one in my F150, but my friend bought it and he wanted it, so I left it in the truck.

It was the white faced version. I got the black face version for the XJ.

 

It's the small black face. Nothing special just something to read RPM's

I still have mine in the box. I had the other for many years, so I had no issue buying another.

 

Sorry about not being as clear as possible. I know that the green wire goes to the coil i just need to know where to tie the green wire into. where does it connect to read the rpm's? the instructions are poorly written. and yes it is the sunpro II.

You splice it into that wire.

I used a clip on 'T' connector made for this very thing. Radio shack should have the connector.

 

Green wire or C terminal.

 

Hmmm I like the full black you got. I never liked the Crome ring on mine. It blinds me when the sun hits it lol
I outta paint it.

 

I hope mine doesn't fade over time.

 

The black on mine is still black under the brown dust. Lol I've never cleaned it well just so I could see the needle.
