So, my lift on my '89 xj is a super lift. The shocks are going out on it. I am looking to upgrade to a quality gas-charged Shock that will be compatible with a 4in lift. I looked at OLDMANEMU, but I do not think that they sell a stand alone gas-charged shock for Xj's that are longer than oem height. What brands do you use for YOUR lifted xj, and how has it improved the overall ride? All I need is the shock. The rest of the lift is in good shape.

Love the OME Nitrocharger Sports, mine are the long ones and are a pretty good height for my 4" lift. The leaf springs are stiff, and the shocks are decently stiff as well, but for my application (wheeling + occasional commute + highway boat towing) theyre excellent. I think they're advertised as a "hybrid" shock with tripple stage valving, whatever that is. I'm not sure if that influences your decision on opting for only monotubes, but the OME's are a quality product regardless.

The Bilstein 5100's are an excellent choice for both on and off road. My guess is the majority of XJ owners with aftermarket shocks run them. When I went from a 3" to a 4 1/2" lift the Bilstein 5100's were my choice for replacements and quite a ride difference. They are a very good shock at a mid range price.

I'm running pro-comp es 9500 and i'm pleased with them. Only in the rear for the moment, I swapped them out when I removed the sway bar and installed the AALs and was very pleased with their performances. very affordable but they do not include the boot.(not a big deal, gives you the opportunity to color match them to your color scheme if so desired.)

Best way to order shocks is to figure out the length you need and go from there, I also recommend the 5100s, I run them in the front with stock bumpstops and they haven't even flinched after being slammed on bottomed almost every trip out.
