Default After market temp gauge

Where is the best place to go threw the fire wall with after market temp gauge. Not a fan of the dummy light!

I had multiple empty holes in my firewall, the one that I chose for my aftermarket mods is just centerline of the master cylinder, and just below it,

You can always swap for a full gauge cluster. You only need to change 2 senders on the engine and it should plug and play.

You got me thinking now. I didn’t realize it would be that easy. Any suggestions on brand and where to buy/order?

If you can't harvest the sensors from the same junkyard XJ as the cluster - any autoparts store, just stick to a big name brand.

I mean on the donor instrument cluster.

Has anyone addressed that?

The mileage on the donor gauge cluster cannot be less than the original, I could not find one that was close, now my jeep legally has an extra 50,000 miles on it.

A quick search tells me that any vehicle that is 2010 or newer must show correct mileage, given production stopped in 2001 the XJ's no longer fall under that category.

I haven’t picked up a donor cluster yet, but I’m glad this was brought up I had absolutely no clue about the mileage.

I think I’m just gonna buy a $25 boush temp gauge and plumb it into the return hose and be done with it. I saw a video on YouTube, if I can find the tee the guy used I think I’ll be good.

Be aware that coolant temp gauges are acutely sensitive to being in the correct location, and fully immersed in coolant

That means a aftermarket gauge in the return pipe will not show the same temp as the OEM sender/gauge

Plenty of clusters available and they swap easily.
