I see what your saying. My steering box seems to get a lot of abuse. I'm on my third one. Can't seem to put my finger on it. I'm making a bracket too to brace the steering box. I'll send you some pics when I'm done. So you can see what I'm talking about. Won't be for a week. Appreciate the help.

Ever think of going with a hydro assist? It may help.

It's assist for your steering and will save your steering box from doing all the work.
See what you think. There are kits that would have a ram, steering box and a upgraded pump but it won't be cheap.

Here is a thread on it.

Thanks. That should help a lot. Yeah, its definitely not cheap. But that's what I am lookin for. Your build thread also helped me out a lot. My motor is toast. Its the same motor I bought it with and it wasn't really taken care of. I was thinking about either rebuilding and making a stroker out of the tired 4.0. Or doing the 305 swap like you. I was also thinking about a 318 just because it was available. What do you think I should do?

If the rest of the drivetrain is in good shape, swap another 4.0 or a stroker in it. Chevy's can be a dime a dozen but without funding, fab skills and a lot of research it'll take time and a lot of money. Maybe not a lot, I may have 4K in it now but that was tinkering with it and gathering parts for 5 years. Mount kits were available but cost a kings ransom, so I built my mounts. I'm not going to bash the 318, but if you're going to do it, do it once.

mount it from your axle to either your drag link or your center link. either one would work fine.

you will have to make a mount that uses two u-bolts to mount the bracket to your steering link.

Yeah I see what you are saying. I was looking at it and was thinking of making a bracket that bolts to the trac bar mount. Then run it from that bracket to the tie rod and connect it with a bracket and U-bolts. What do you Think?
