Ok, so my engine is running allright, but it's certainly filthy/gummy.

Someone told me that to clean out my engine, the best thing to do would be to change the oil with cheap stuff, but add 1 quart of tranny fluid in with it.

Then, drive it for 300-500 miles and change it again with the good stuff, and use some ZDDP additive...

I'm worried that using tranny fluid could cause problems with the motor. Anyone done this, and if so, how long ago?


As for the ZDDP issues, any suggestions for additives or motor oils that still have this cam-saving stuff?

Also, what's the difference between an flat tappet and a roller tappet? Can the I6 guys convert to the roller style?

I've used the trans fluid trick for years in all my cars. The engine flush stuff in the stores works good, but kills cork gaskets over time. I also use Lucas Oil Treatment in all my fluids. I love that stuff...
