Default to add a slip yoke, or not to add a slip yoke

Ok guys I have 93 jeep Cherokee sport. I'm gonna add 4.5 sus lift, 2 in coil spacer, 2 in shackles. And running 33 in tires. Do I need to add a slip yoke ?

I would say yes. I am no expert but from my understanding 4.5" of lift is the extreme limit of not needing one. Any more than that and it is required.

You already have a slip yoke. You want a slip yoke eliminator. From my understanding the newer models (97+) require them at smaller lift heights 3" being the cut off. But every jeep is different, so yours might not need one at 3" or 4". You'll have to lift and see, but be prepared if you do need one.

I've got a similar setup as you 4" suspension lift & 1.75" budget boost. I didn't install a drop transfer kit at first & didn't do a SYE (right away). I had a pretty bad vibration from 35-50. I later installed a transfer drop, then removed that & did a SYE & Tatton DS. Best mod I've done. So answer is 98% yes. You may be able to live with the vibes, but you'll be 1" +/- taller than me.

Just curious, why that tall? I'm just under 6", w/33's and am planning on going 35's really soon.

Some really small lifts with really big tires and lots of cutting, not really my style but to each his own. I really like the stock look of the body on the xj's and dont want to ruin that by cutting it away. Add in the fact that its my daily driver and you can see why its not for me.

Either way, you will most likely need a SYE. If it were me I would purchase it, install the lift, check to see if I need the SYE, if not return it. But like I said, its my daily so time is a factor for me.

Mine is also a daily and only at 3" and 31 but have no plans to go much higher, maybe 4.5 and 42s. but this summer the truggy rear chop and the front narrowing should start

That is a huge lift for a dd. Huge lift to go down trails too, especially with that small of tires. I'm at 3" on 35's, very minor trimming, and imo, its still too tall. But to each their own. With that much lift you will need a sye, might need to address some steering issues at that height too, stock steering wasn't near good enough on my MJ at 4.5" lift, it prevented the suspension from drooping because it would bind up, it just couldnt handle that height. The 1 ton steering on my XJ works great though, doesn't limit the suspension travel at all.

I'm running about 6.5" of lifting the rear of my xj... No tcase drop or sye, drove fine on the road...

See how the jeep does, then get a sye if needed.

I think every XJ can benefit from a Slip Yoke Eliminator, but especially yours haha.

I'm sure there not great, but it dosnt vibrate (like everyone seems to complain about?) on the road and seems to be holding up pretty well, I beat this thing hard on the trails.. Haha.

3" lift very minor trimming and "Running 35"'s" post some photos of that please!! Mine at 3" and 33's needed major trimming for any real flex at all.

I run a 4 1/2" lift and 33" will go to 35's next time. I use mine on the trails only hundreds of miles of them locally in the Ozark Mountains. When I went to 4 1/2" a SYE was needed as well as shims on the rear differential as well as adj. upper & lower control arms.

Mine handles very well at highway speeds and around town even with the 12:50x15's heavy lug tires. A good trackbar is needed a zj steering upgrade was all I needed for a trail runner.

I also have a93 sport. Also with 4-4.5 of lift and I couldn't even bolt the drive shaft back on with out an sye. (I've also got an 8.25 so, slightly longer pinion and an auto trans which would give the shortest possible drive shaft length in our rigs)
